2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Cease does nothing for the team this year. No reason to trade anything of value when he’ll be available this offseason.

But I do hope another team grabs him, so he loses the QO penalty.

A 3 team trade would work in the scenario and we get more prospects.

AA fucked up big time letting Laureano go and signing Profar to a 3 year deal. And I just dont understand why we let him go especially knowing Acuna wouldnt start the season. He wasnt old. He didnt just come out of nowhere he had a solid track record. Yeah he had a bad 22/23/start tp 24 before joining the Braves but they werent bad like Harris and Albies worst hitters in the majors bad. They were still 90+ RC seasons and he even has the versatility to cover CF in a pinch too. Worst case he bombs in 25 and we release him when Acuna is ready. Now we have 2 more years of Profar dragging us down. This after declining Tyler Yates option the year before only for him to have a 1 ERA season. I understand if we didnt want to commit big money to these players given context but they were like 1 year 7 million options. AA is shooting the team in the foot with these kind of decisions. The short term risk with upside contract is supposed to be what we want to add.

I dont know what it would cost but I like the idea of trading for Luis Robert and Michael Tauchman of the White Sox. Its been looking doubtful he would even have his options years picked up but he was still mashing lefties and has pretty much done what Michael Harris has done in the second half albeit still a very small sample size. So there might be interest from a few teams. I would love to get him and let him play out the year to see if his options are worth picking up. The White Sox have just been a toxic organization and just about everyone that broke into the majors with that team got better when they left. I would bet on that. I really like the defensive upgrade he would give the team whether in RF so Acuna can DH or in LF having him and Harris out there would be a significant improvement over Profar who is quickly turning into Soler in LF. Tauchman is an old veteran who is not a plus defender but still much better than Profar. He has a solid track record for putting up an OBP over .350 with below average power. Still under team control in 2026 for a couple million. Also he is a LH hitter so just a platoon of Tauchman/Roberts in LF would probably provide much better results than Profar.

I've been on the fence of trading Murphy bc I like having him and Baldwin both but after Acuna last night we have to trade Murphy. Acuna needs to almost be the full time DH next year and go sign Tucker. Acuna needs to be at DH at least 4-5 times a week.

This has been the correct course of action since Acuna popped his 2nd ACL. The primary goal of roster construction for AA should be to keep Acuna’s 1.000 OPS bat in the lineup, and at this point in his career that’s most likely to occur at DH. That means the roster must be constructed to open up 700 PAs for him at DH without having to sit an .800 OPS catcher.

Watching him throw is amazing. Seeing him fly around the bases is exciting. But the actual value he provides is the .400 OBP and and 110+ mph exit velocities. Everything else he provides on the field and on the bases is completely negated by a single 10 game DL stint where that elite bat is missing from the lineup.

It really isn’t that complicated.

I thought we should fire Snit but I think that would letting him off to easy. Let him finish managing this disaster to taint his legacy even more and then can him as soon as the season ends.

This would be the perfect offseason to spend big on a couple of players like Tucker and Cease. Murphy won't be traded before the deadline even though he 💯 should bc several teams would over pay big time for him and he would probably be the best player available.

I have a bad feeling about this deadline too.. but things haven't really picked up just yet.. so still holding out hope..

But I don't know really how smart AA is and maybe he thinks the team can still make the playoffs.
Not sure if even matters anymore... our best 2 players are always injured, and what used to be our best player lost his velocity. Harris can't hit until the 2nd half. Ozzie can't hit, period. Riley continues to go down as a hitter. AA only signs bargains. The quikrete patch is being replaced by American standard toilets in honor of our window being flushed.

Just stop. Ozuna is gonna get moved for a couple of 40 FV guys and Iggy will be traded within the last hour of the deadline for a 40 FV or lottery card type prospect.
