He's pretty expensive as a backup catcher and he doesn't hit good enough to be a DH.If he doesn't bring great value, just keep em. He's hardly as horrible as you guys make em out to be. He's at 108 wrc+, .334 xwoba, and 2.4 fWAR in 82 games.

that is t how it works. Baldwin catching for 130 games would be worth more than Baldwin/murphy splitting time. Only thing this gives you is an expensive insurance policy. Also Murphy value is going to be diminished with ABS surely coming. And Baldwin is cheap. Having the best pair of catchers in baseball for the total seems like a good thing to me. It's moot anyway bc AA isn't trading him. And with Murphy, Fuentes, and Richie knocking at the door next season, can't say I blame AA. Murphy is an outstanding receiver
That's terrible roster management. What that means is the Drake (the far superior hitter) will have to split time with Murphy. And as I said, Murphy really isn't a good enough hitter to DH half the games. And Baldwin is cheap. Having the best pair of catchers in baseball for the total seems like a good thing to me. He’ll be fine. He’s extremely streaky.By the way, as I predicted Sean Murphy would go on 2-36 streak or some BS like that and tank a lot of his trade value he had built up at the deadline. It appears I gave him too much credit. He's now 1-39 since the deadline.
We might have gotten a king's ransom at the deadline. If he continues to tank, we might have to eat money to move him.
There's more to the catcher position than hitting. Again, in less games, Murphy has more fWAR than Baldwin. That's terrible roster management. Are the Braves are a bottom 5 analytics franchise? I thought AA would be all about analytics when hired from the Dodgers, but when the team is led by anti-analytics Snitker and Weiss, one has to wonder.
I did not realize Profar was this bad defensively.
A 1-35 slump is brutal, but his bat — which is very good for a catcher — was never where his main value lies. He’s a defense-first guy who CAN hit and is consistently praised for how well he works with pitchers. The pitching peripherals when he’s behind the plate have reflected that since he arrived.
Would I trade him in a deal that legitimately helps Atlanta now and in the future? Absolutely. But acting like he has little value just because of an offensive slump completely misses the bigger picture.
Sale has praised Murph dozens of times for last year and winning the CY. Now Waldrep says he is the one who helped him. Murphy might be more valuable than anything we trade him for with a lot of young pitching coming.
That's an above avg hitter also. Yeah, should be easyMurphy wasnt catching him at AAA. That just sounds like basic praise a person gives to be polite. I am pretty sure we can find a catcher who can do that off the scrap heap to be Waldreps personal catcher if we need to.

pitchers have been praising catchers since the beginning of time. TDA also got that praise, but that didn't make him worth 16 million a year and taking AB's away from a clearly better offensive player. When ABS is here next year, the only value Murphy will have is going to be holding runners.
