Minor League Thread Part Deux

Gil hit another HR (his 7th) and Southisene scored his first walk (and was also 1-4) in Augusta’s 10-0 drubbing of Kannapolis.

Meanwhile, Isaiah Drake will finish his season batting over .300 at Rome (with a .346 OBP)—though his .682 OPS shows he still has big strides to make in the power department. He’s still quite (just turned 20), has a ton of speed, and plays a legit CF—he’s another guy who could be a fast-mover in 2026.
Yeah Drake hasn't shown much power yet but dude is crazy fast.

Drake made a lot of progress on with making contact. His K-rate dropped from 35% in 2024 to 21% in 2025. Next step is making solid contact and increasing power. With a guy with Drake's speed, the old adage that "you can't steal first" is apt. Braves have been patient with him and I hope they start him in Rome again next year. He's another guy who would have benefitted from playing in the now-defunct Short-season A Appalachian League instead of being pushed to Augusta in 2024 after a so-so year in the FCL in 2023.

Nice to see Gil have a better second half of the season. There will have to be some sorting with the middle infielders given the Braves drafting Lodise, Miller, and Wlliams in this year's draft and Perdomo and Mateo already on board. The guys drafted this year are all older than Gil, Perdomo, and Mateo so maybe they can be pushed.

Excited to see more of Cody Miller and get a good read on his defense. I see a little bit of Brendan Donovan in him as a hitter. If he could be average defensively at SS, he could be a good option at SS for awhile.

Looks like there are going to be a lot of guys to keep an eye on next year. That's different than saying it's a particularly great system, but at least we have more darts in hand to throw at the board.

Its a great system. Look at Waldrep. He was not even a top 5 prospect for us. Just a few innings difference will determine whether he is a rookie who would now rank highly or not a rookie thus not helping farm rankings. This is why farm rankings are irrelevant. Thankfully we arent an organization that lets those things influence decision making.

I totally forgot to add Southisene to the middle-infield discussion. Curious to see where he starts next year (both level and position). I imagine both he and Perdomo will be in the post-season instructional league and things will sort themselves out.

He WAS a top 5 prospect for us. He was probably even our top overall prospect heading into 2024. But the 2024 was a disaster of a season for him and fell off the radar.

Surprisingly though, he was still ranked top 100 overall on Baseball Prospectus coming into 2025 and top 50 on FG, so at least some people were still relatively high on him.

It's not exactly rare, but it also doesn't happen regularly, that sometimes a switch gets flipped with a pitcher and things turn around dramatically. It sounds like during Murphy's rehab in Gwinnett that he had a sit-down with Waldrep and helped with pitch selection and it has made quite a difference. Consistency going forward will be the key and I still think he needs to hone is control a bit. Very promising couple of months for him however.

I'm wondering if it's getting him at bats against high level competition before sending him to the Arizona Fall League.
That and SS is gonna be super crowded next year so they are giving him a little separation. They could also be concerned that Kim will reject the option and are pushing him a little bit.

I really think there is a near 0% chance Kim declines that options. It’s $16m. He’s unlikely to get that on the open market after the year he’s had.

I'd agree if Boras wasn't his agent. Boras always likes to gable and with how bad the SS market is somebody will give him 3-4 years.
