60 years ago New York and Oklahoma had the same life expectancy. The change since doest have much if anything to do with those ethnic differences.Quick google search says Asian Americans live the longest, and native Americans live the shortest. New York has the 5th most Asian Americans, and Oklahoma has the 2nd most native Americans. I would think this is part of your difference
Can't find Asian population in NY by decade; but just since 2010, Asian population is up from 8.2% in 2010 to 10.6% in 2020. I would think (maybe incorrectly) that this number has been rising for a while.60 years ago New York and Oklahoma had the same life expectancy. If you disaggregate the data you will find that life expectancy in NY has risen relative to Oklahoma for whites, blacks and every other ethnic group. Changes in population mix (such as more Asians in NY than 60 years ago) can account for only a tiny part of the divergence. Can't find Asian population in NY by decade; but just since 2010, Asian population is up from 8.2% in 2010 to 10.6%e in 2020. 60 years ago NY and Oklahoma were neck and neck in life expectancy. NY was much richer then too. The divergence since has other explanations.Wealth equals health in most scenarios
y'all never have problems with those data when they fit your preconceptionsI thought people had better sense than to trust blue city/state data. Guess not.
You're a Leave Me Alone Guy. Oklahoma leaves people alone. Those are the results. NY has robust efforts to suppress thangs like smoking.Oklahomans smoke too much, eat too much and work jobs (oil and farming) that don’t pay as much as finance.
New Yorkers need to stop setting each other on fire on public transit.
I have no doubt Oklahoma politicians could be doing a better job (they have a couple guys who sure do love to thump a Bible on camera).
Interesting enough, I never hear New York politicians voice concern that their citizens will leave them for Oklahoma, but they sure do bring up Florida migration quite a bit. I wonder why that is.

Having good political choices makes a big difference. California was better governed when it alternated Republican and Democratic governors. That's why I hope to see the Republicans return to running and nominating serious people in states like Calfironia.I’ll be the first to rag on these shit holes, but I visited San Francisco a couple months ago for work (after 10 years of living there). It’s noticeable how much it’s improved. My friends who still live there say
Mayor Daniel Lurie has been a titanic sized upgrade over London Breed . Chesa Boudin should also be criminally charged for how disastrous a job he did as the DA of San Francisco. It turns out being tougher on crime reduces crime. Who would have thought?
I’m sure Kathy Hochul doesn’t pay Oklahoma too much mind. There’s not much there that would appeal to New Yorkers. She does seem to be concerned with why so many have already left for Florida and what will happen once they elect Hamas as the new mayorYou're a Leave Me Alone Guy. Oklahoma leaves people alone. People who should be most concerned are the New Jersey Democrats.I’m sure Kathy Hochul doesn’t pay Oklahoma too much mind. There’s not much there that would appeal to New Yorkers. What made Larry Elder unsetious relative to Katie Porter?Having good political choices makes a big difference. California was better governed when it alternated Republican and Democratic governors. It's unfathomable that a paradise like California could ever lose enough residents to lower their congressional caucus, but dammit Dems made it happenWhen you see an exodus from places that have data that says these places are a great place to live then you have to question what is going on.
Basic common sense that you so-called intellects don't have.
There is an interesting study that looks at the counties clustered around where NY, PA and OH meet. Ohio takes a Leave Me Alone approach to smoking. NY takes a very pro-active anti-smoking approach. PA is in between. Decades ago incidence of lung cancer was the same in those counties. Now there are big differences. Public health policy matters. Yugely. Other policies on things like education matter. Yugely.I’m sure Kathy Hochul doesn’t pay Oklahoma too much mind. There’s not much there that would appeal to New Yorkers. Just like Oklahoma can't do anything about the fact that NY was setup as the financial center of the world 100 years ago and therefore people with money live there an that they can afford preventive daily care that Oklahomans can't.There is an interesting study that looks at the counties clustered around where NY, PA and OH meet. I'm not saying that blue states are perfect. Hochul should be trying to make sure that young talented people want to come, stay and contribute to the economy of her state (i'm not sure she can do much about the folks who have made it and now want to retire somewhere warmer and cheaper). But 7 years extra of life is a huge thang. It more than offsets a lot of things blue states dont get right. And it is worth paying some taxes for.
