2025-2026 offseason thread

AA offseason roster updates toward the end of this radio interview yesterday . . .


Cliff's notes:
- SS and at least one SP are the priority, among multiple needs
- Mentions rotating Baldwin / Murphy / Profar through DH, downplaying the need for a full-time DH
- Schwellenbach's elbow is completely healed
- Grant Holmes is "over the hump" on his elbow and is throwing bullpens and live BPs (so sounds like he's not getting surgery)
- He had "a bunch of conversations" yesterday with other GMs about players that could be moved.
 
There will be a lot of good SP options available but SS and top utility guys will be harder to find so that's where I'd start. I think Kim will be easier to sign once FA starts and he's not getting crazy offers like Boras tells him he will. Brendan Donovan would be the first guy I'd grab bc he can backup most positions and do it well and for a long period of time and with our injury history we need him.

Great...so who plays in the OF when Profar or Acuna is the DH? Fraley? White? Are we going to pretend this is acceptable?

A good OF has to be top 3 needs. AA has his work cut out and he has to address everything bc injuries are gonna no doubt happen.

I’ll be pissed too if that happens, but perhaps take a breath and realize he can’t say “player x” will rotate in if he hasn’t acquired player x yet. Bellinger is the most obvious fit, but believe it when I see it. I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Conforto for a bounceback year.

Bellinger would be a perfect fit here.
 
Devin Williams at 2/24 seems like a no brainer. He was arguably the best closer in baseball coming into 2025. And finished the season on a strong note.
