Top 5 as of now but if the top 5 teams spend more then that sets us behind them even more. That puts them over $230M which is very close to Top 5.
Lopez has 1 year left and if you're taking a player owed a lot more or for multiple years then I could see it.Why in the world would any team want a $14M arm who didn’t pitch in 2025 due to shoulder issues?
Don't forget Brett Sears. I think he figures into the BP rotation between AAA and the MLB as well.I think Lara and Sinnard are gonna play big roles in the BP this year along with a few other guys but they can't be counted on right away. We need one elite type of bullpen arm and one other really reliable arm. AA doesn't mind spending big on the BP so I think he'll get that fixed but the Lopez talk scares me bc he no doubt needs to be a BP arm going forward.
I forgot about Sears. We have a lot of young depth coming and it's quality depth. I wouldn't be opposed to having Diddier coming out of the bullpen at some point when he's ready to help out.Don't forget Brett Sears. I think he figures into the BP rotation between AAA and the MLB as well.
No one "wants" him per se. The basic idea is that he is used to off-set some difference in payroll coming our way. For instance, if we traded for Sonny Gray. The Card are gonna have to eat money to move him. Rather than send physical money over, they could take on Lopez and maybe they could talk themselves into thinking he's worth the gamble in case he comes regains his form. They would likely have had to eat the 14 million regardless to move him.Why in the world would any team want a $14M arm who didn’t pitch in 2025 due to shoulder issues?
This is it. We could send a couple of good prospects back to get Winn and Donovan also.No one "wants" him per se. He's a FAThis is it. We could send a couple of good prospects back to get Winn and Donovan also.
One name that just opted out that is really intriguing is Jorge Polonco with the Mariners.
Yeah I know. He opted out. He hasn't played SS in a minute but he has a good bat that can DH and play most of the INF.He's a FA
Iggy should have been traded at the 24 deadline. He was lights out at the time and would have brought back good prospects. All our problems circle back to not selling in 24. Instead of trading old expensive players for young cheap ones we decided to go for it and its now cost us 2025. By the time we were willing to trade all our old assets cratered in value.Iglesias and PJ should both been traded bc no way that nobody didn't want them. But I trust AA is aiming bigger
Lara, Sinnard, Braun, and Burkhalter could be big parts of the pen. I am actually warming up to the idea of signing Edwin Diaz. A dominant closer is so important in October and I think he is safe enough to spend on. 20 million for a closer doesnt seem so bad when I would be happy paying a mid rotation starter 30 mill. Unfortunately it sounds like they want Iglesias back.I think Lara and Sinnard are gonna play big roles in the BP this year along with a few other guys but they can't be counted on right away. They are cutting money in the bullpen so maybe they will chase Diaz. Hefner the new pitching coach was with him in NY so they know each other. I'd spend more money on Diaz than saving some and re signing Iglesias. There's like a 6 year age difference also.Lara, Sinnard, Braun, and Burkhalter could be big parts of the pen. Just really disagree with the last sentence. Everything else together? Sure. Kinley’s option has zero bearing on that. Picking it up would’ve been a stupid ass move.So do the Braves have money
do they not have money
is AA afraid to use the money..
I am really lost now
But seriously, I think folks are attacking cheff just to look like they got em... I think if anyone would step back and look at the entire picture.. they woud agree
didn't buy at the '24 deadline, went on vaca the entire '25 offseason, and forgot there was even a deadline in '25.. then to start the season, we get a few week delay to announce WW as manager.. then decline multiple options {similar to last offseason}... all while hearing the same lip service we have been hearing for a year and a half about how awesome the Braves are going to spend..
yeah it is easy to get concerned and as you hear each deal getting sent packing, it can flame those fears... so while cutting ties with Kinley means shit on its own.. cumulative, it becomes concerning...
This I agree with. AA has failed a lot of big moments in a row.and declining prince albert's option makes not trading him last deadline even more infuriating. just mind boggling failures..
Exactly. As I said:Then why TF are we talking about it?
Obviously you think it's at least partially a sign we have no money, or you wouldn't have mentioned it.
Declining Kinley has ZERO bearing on whether or not we have money. It's not part of a trend. It's the same as releasing Alek Manoah or Jake Fraley.
I cant see the Mets being outbid for Diaz. I hope we at least run up the price. They are cutting money in the bullpen so maybe they will chase Diaz. Yeah I don’t care what a RP’s ERA was over 25 innings. He’s a journeyman who has literally never been good over anything resembling a sufficient sample size.I don't think his era particularly figures into it.
Were his peripherals good? Velo, movement, walks.
If Kim ends up getting ~3/$45 and it isn’t with Atlanta, my concern about $ will go into hyperdrive. He is worth that gamble, and this team being so devoid of any SS option shouldn’t pass it up.this offseason: I don't think the Braves will be the high bidder on premium contracts because nothing suggests that they will ever be the high bid on those contracts whether they have money or not.
It also seems like a fairly lousy setup for the positions they need to fill. Starting pitching depth shouldn't be hard. Quality is going to be tough.
The OF class is uninspiring as is SS.
Alex may end up spending money on premium relievers gain as that seems to be a luxury he doesn't mind paying for.
They don't have a wealth of assets to trade so fixing their broken positions will be interesting.
Personally I don't see any reason why they shouldn't spend a second round pick on a QO if that is a player that fills a need at a contract that fits their general world view of short term commitments at fair FMV.
