Drake wholly deserved it. I'm surprised more of the voters weren't sucked in by the smoke and mirrors of Horton having a sub-3 ERA on a playoff team.
Can you imagine how many underslot guys AA can draft with all those high picks? I mean, he might be able to get the 15th, 35th AND 40th best prospects! If the Braves don't sign a QO and get a top 5 pick, then they would have that pick, the ~28th pick and then again around ~35 depending on when those playoff teams over the 2nd tier get slotted.
such a confusing setup.. I just assumed your slot kept rolling each round but didn't take into account those exempt teams...Also worth pointing out that the lottery only matters for the first round. We will pick 9th in every round after the first - we currently have sixth best odds but you have to add back in the three teams who were ineligible for a top 10 pick in the lottery (Rockies, Nationals, Angels.)
There’s going to be a lot of extra picks between round one and two. Between PPI, the qualifying offer picks and competitive balance, that was a total of 16 extra picks last year. So if you’re picking ninth in the second round, that pick was actually 52 overall last year.
Might be able to get #200 in the 20th round too though, got to appreciate that approachCan you imagine how many underslot guys AA can draft with all those high picks? I mean, he might be able to get the 15th, 35th AND 40th best prospects!
Seriously why are you so miserable about literally everything. Good grief lol. You are one of those guys that would win a billion dollar lottery and spent a decade complaining you had to pay tax on itexactly why giving a competitive advantage to a team for some biased voting by idiots is a really dumb idea.. if this was closer and the Brave's 2 beat idiots were the deciding vote, then how dumb would baseball look..
Great for Drake, he deserved it and I am glad the Braves are the ones who get the advantage... but this is beyond stupid and I hope it changes in short order.
And his 4th rounder that year will win ROY in 2029Can you imagine how many underslot guys AA can draft with all those high picks? I mean, he might be able to get the 15th, 35th AND 40th best prospects!
exactly and voted for their guy. it is completely biased and shouldn't carry a competitive advantage for a team. Those guys didn't vote on who was the best rookie, they voted on the guy the got to watch the most and just cast their ballot (chicago guys)
I get that.. and if there wasn't a pick attached, then we would just be pissed that Drake got robbed of an award he deserved.. but with the pick attached, there would be way more of you guys bitching if Horton won by one vote and you all saw that 2 Cub beat writers and some faillies beat writers voted for Horton and the Braves lost that pick... It is a dumb way to get teams to not manipulate players (except it doesn't stop them)..This happened even when there wasn't something else on the line. Unless the rookie is a overly obvious choice like Kurtz this year you are going to have hometown votes when you have a rookie that's good on your team. It's not that big of a deal.
sorry you feel this way.. but yeah, I am not a circle jerk Brave's fan.. hit reddit if you want that crap.. this place has great balance and I just like playing devils advocate and don't take shit to seriously.. but the last 2 years have tested my fandom a bit.. I will agree with that.Seriously why are you so miserable about literally everything. Good grief lol. Grats to Baldwin! He definitely deserved the award. We were tracking that much of the last 6 weeks and it was fun to speculate on how the voting would go. I'm glad it went that way!
I still don't understand how Brown nets the Astros a pick? Does any award finalist net a pick?
We'll be getting another 3 picks next year when Waldrep and Schwelly finish 1 and 2 for CYA and Lara wins ROY after he takes over the closer role in June.Brown was still PPI (Prospect Promotion Incentive) eligible. If you don't win the ROY award you still can earn your team a pick by being in the top 3 of MVP or CYA voting before you hit arbitration. So you essentially have a 3 year window.
What’s silly is that none of those guys would qualify for this silly incentive because a bunch of overweight men who make lists on the internet didn’t include them on a top 100We'll be getting another 3 picks next year when Waldrep and Schwelly finish 1 and 2 for CYA and Lara wins ROY after he takes over the closer role in June.
that and the Braves actually promoted Schwelly too quickly. So the system that is designed to punish a team for manipulating service time is punishing the Braves because they didn't manipulate SS service time...What’s silly is that none of those guys would qualify for this silly incentive because a bunch of overweight men who make lists on the internet didn’t include them on a top 100
Oh yeah, I forgot about the caveat of being on a top 100 list. What’s silly is that none of those guys would qualify for this silly incentive because a bunch of overweight men who make lists on the internet didn’t include them on a top 100
I think they will remove that part eventually. It's pretty arbitrary who is or isn't a top 100 prospect.Having to be on top 100 lists is incredibly stupid. Reward teams for having their guys up and developing players well, fine. But not counting it if they didn’t make top 100 lists? I don’t know why they should matter.

I could see Cam moving quick next year and getting a shot in ST in 27So less treat their top prospects like the Cubs treated Kris Bryant. Teams did and will still manipulate service time but that one was the most public and obvious.
Braves are punished a bit because they don't let their best prospects stay in the minors that long. Aggressive promotions has been the name of the game for a bit here.
Cam Camminiti seems like a guy that could be up for an extra pick assuming he's not called up mid season and loses his status whenever it's time for him to debut.
