Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

We had 40-50% tariffs on many products in the 19th century while Europe was going free trade and we buried them.

We are showing zero signs of GDP being hurt right now.

Your baseball analogy doesn't hold water.

Feels like you’re handwaving away everything else that makes our economies different and attributing all the difference to 1890’s tariff policy. I don’t buy it.

Yes they raised prices on specific items that were most impacted by tariffs.

I really dont get the argument. You keep admitting that yes, price are being raised, while also telling me youre debunking price raises and there are not price increases bc truflatipn says so. The damn CEO said they were raising prices lol
I'm curious - Is it becuase these products have raw materials sourced from different suppliers?

Is that what you think is happening?

This is what truflation does - Take ACTUAL PRICE points and not rely on surveys from execs claiming price increases.

We have already debuked the claim that soda cans have exploded in price becuase of Trumps recent tariffs.

We have already seen the base model of the lexus remained unchanged in price.

I'd love to know the walmart receiptt that increased by 60%.

Ultimately, the fear mongering on price increases just neverer happened.
Oh - groceries are up. We order online and it’s definitely higher.
I guess I need to go yell at these guys for lying to me. Even my own flesh and blood!

Walmart groceries are more - no question but that started back in 2020.

I just picked two items I’ve bought before from lululemon and were still stored in the app.

For sure - I'm not seeing big increases though specific to 25 (aside from beef and egg price volitility) and I do most of the food shopping in my house.

Bold strategy for the CEO to announce price increases but actually not increase prices. Strange idea

Here are some notable companies where the CEO explicitly stated (in earnings calls, interviews, or public comments) that they are raising prices, planning to raise prices, or passing on costs to consumers due to tariffs:

AutoZone — CEO Philip Daniele said the company would "pass those tariff costs back to the consumer" in response to new or increased tariffs.

Walmart — CEO Doug McMillon stated that due to the magnitude of tariffs, the company "aren't able to absorb all the pressure" and would raise prices on affected items (e.g., toys, electronics, certain groceries).

Procter & Gamble — CEO Jon Moeller indicated price increases were "likely" because "tariffs are inherently inflationary."

Adidas — CEO Bjørn Gulden confirmed the company would raise prices in the U.S. to offset significant tariff-related costs.

Target — CEO Brian Cornell described price hikes as a "very last resort" but noted consumers would likely see increases (e.g., on produce affected by tariffs).

Best Buy — CEO Corie Barry said price increases for consumers were "highly likely" as vendors pass along tariff costs.

Hasbro — CEO Chris Cocks stated that price increases were "unavoidable" due to tariffs impacting profits.

Stanley Black & Decker — CEO Donald Allan Jr. outlined plans to offset tariffs with "pricing actions," including price increases.

Other companies (e.g., Nike, Macy's, Swatch) have announced or implemented price hikes tied to tariffs, but statements often came from CFOs or executives rather than the CEO directly. Many firms have absorbed some costs initially but signaled shifts toward passing them on as tariffs persist into 2026.

Dude I dont know shit about Lululemon business im just telling you they raised prices due to tariffs and you are arguing that fact

And my response from the very beginning is that prices won't materially change becuase of price elasticity.

So Lulu is claiming (i'm sure accurately) that some products are increasing in costs. My question is why not all? They are all sourced from the same top 5-10 vendors.

The reality is that demand is much more integral in price movements than tariffs.

At least Trump understands what tariffs mean...

"Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump posted. “Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, “EAT THE TARIFFS,” and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

Maybe you can show me where I said corps wouldn't have to eat some of the increases in costs....
