2026 ST Thread

If Murphy can find consistency around 94 MPH, that vertical break is going to play up like crazy. Either way, he, Ritchie and Baumann have flashed even more advanced stuff than I expected coming into the spring.

I think he is saying SS elected the braces for a partial where Holmes just rested it. But it is not apples to apples regardless. Different point in season. Probably different tear. Who knows what else.
Yeah but SS’s options were either TJS #2 or the brace… resting for him wasn’t considered an option. I very seriously doubt all partial tears are the same… especially when you’ve already had TJS.

Seems like AA has done a good job restocking the system - I'm out of the loop with Braves baseball for over a year but even with the injuries it feels like htere are lots of capable options to step in while the injury mess settles. Is that wrong?

The system always seems to churn out one or two under the radar guys every year. Fingers crossed Ritchie or Murphy fill that void this year.

We missed your optimistic ignorance.

Will one of you break down Murphys stuff from yesterday?
FF: 91.9 mph, 5.8" arm, 18.9" rise
Below average velocity by 2.5 mph, below average run, plus rise. The shape of this pitch may make it useable, but 92 is a tough foundation to work with.

CU: 75.8 mph, 13.4" glove, -9.3" rise
Very similar sweepy shape to Ritchie's, just not as good. Over 6 mph slower, still has above average break, but slightly below average sink. Probably an average-ish pitch.

SL: 83.3 mph, 6.8" glove, 1.4" rise
Slow like Ritchie's but without his quality sweeper movement. More like MLB quality slider movement that's missing 3 mph.

CH: 85.0 mph, 8.6" arm, 7.2" rise
This has well below average movement in both directions. This is not a good change at all.

FC: 86.6 mph, 0.7" arm, 14.3" rise
Like everything else, this cutter is 3 mph below average, is a cutter that doesn't actually cut and still moves arm-side, and has the rise of a poor 4-seamer. This is a bad pitch.

If Ritchie is a poor man's Schwelly, then Murphy is a poor man's Elder with 1 average pitch in the curve and a below average but potentially usable fastball. They are not comparable arms in any way based on each guy's current arsenal, and it's very clear why Ritchie is rated so far ahead of Murphy at FG. He probably needs a 3 mph bump to have a chance to be impactful. I get it, he's probably not "airing it out in ST".
