Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Western Civilization is the greatest thing to ever happen to the world. It is a set of common rules, morals, and culture. Mass immigration from other areas upsets that because there is no path to integration. Instead of a group of outsiders working to integrate into the existing culture they set up a parallel culture with their own rules that aren’t compatible. That’s what has happened in Great Britain. Their choices are either submit to the incoming culture, which they have been doing, or mass deportation, which Lowe is pushing.

One of the best men and bosses I have ever worked for was a black dude who could have made his life much easier by not repeatedly sticking his neck out for a hillbilly who just moved to the city and was managing a 95% black workforce. There’s no place on Earth that isn’t better with him in it.

I’ve also lived in more trailer parks than most people have set foot in and dealt with more white millionaires than most people have spoken to. There’s no place on Earth that wouldn’t be better off without many of them.

Data carries plenty of weight and stereotypes are usually based in some truth, but you’re kneecapping the country by making immigration solely race based. You’re also being hypocritical when you call for the end of DEI preferences and quotas on one hand and then call for racial qualifiers on immigration with the other. Merit should always be the qualifier.
I ultimately disagree with you to an extent, but I respect this approach to immigration. My North Star is giving as many people globally the opportunity to escape from violence and poverty as possible, and that the current distribution of resources and power makes it so that the best way to achieve that goal is through relatively robust immigration policy.

Where I find tension between the mainstream left-wing view of immigration and my ideals is in how we handle illegal immigration and welfare. I think there’s a public interest in knowing who is coming in and that we cannot simply fund a whole bunch of social services for additional people forever. In a perfect world, I’d like to see far greater numbers of work visas and other forms of temporary legal residencies provided, but less public money spent on supporting the incoming population and for the left to then concede that if it’s not so difficult to obtain legal status that anybody entering the country without it should be sent home.

In the current state, I think that the lack of bipartisanship on immigration has led to a broken system and a vicious cycle of overly aggressive enforcement followed by overly permissive enforcement and so on. Programs such as the H1-B Visa that allow companies to not only pay less for labor (which I think can be fine) but also provide for fewer rights for the workers that produce tremendous secondary benefits for the employers are the primary drivers of any wage loss amongst the native population, not simply the introduction of new workers. And because the left has gone down a rabbit hole, there’s a reluctance to even support the deportation of criminals and other individuals that do not contribute positively to our society that has allowed the right to gain traction on sweeping generalizations of entire migrant communities as we’ve seen.

We ultimately need a set of principles that direct our immigration policies, and in my view neither mainstream view has any appetite for adhering to them. Immigration can and often does lead to positive societal outcomes, but when individual outcomes are not working, I think we need to accept that they’ve made their choices and send them back.

Immigrants have been making a great contribution to Great Britain for a long time. Including these pilots who helped win the Battle of Britain.

Assimilation is not always smooth. But like us Britain is enriched by its immigrants and their children, including its recent prime minister, Rishi Sunak.

It could be a coincidence but violent crime rates are at their lowest levels in London in a very long time. At a time when the non-European population is at its highest level ever. My daughter has lived there for over three years now and loves it. She loved living in New York as well but prefers London.

Yes - The rape increase is fictitious.

Violent crime is down when you don't record it for sure!

the data on homicides are not sensitive to whether the victim reported it or not

as for other crimes there are data bases that use surveys of people asking whether they have suffered certain crimes...those data back up the official crime statistics

Demis Hassabis is another example of a second generation Briton making a great contribution. Son of immigrants from Cyprus and Singapore. Grew up in a relatively poor part of London.

Another AI pioneer is Mustafa Suleyman. President of Microsoft AI. Born in London. Syrian father (drove a taxi), British mother.
