We'll just agree to disagree on this one. Given how many teams traded away their 1st, it's not a bad move. Denver needed impact players more than rookies, so it's fine. They still came away with a pretty solid draft at that.
Only team who traded back out of the first was the Niners.
So the teams who didn't have a first this year were
Falcons - Traded last year to get back into the first last year
Jags - Traded last year to trade up for Hunter
Packers - Traded before last season for Micah Parsons
Colts - Traded in season for Sauce Gardner
Broncos - Traded for Waddle
Bengals - Traded for Sexy Dexy
Niners - Traded back to 33
Bills - Traded back to 35
Niners and Bills got way more picks in this draft.
Bills traded 26 and 91 to 28, 69, and 167
Bills traded 28 for 31 and 125
Bills traded 31, 69, and 165 for 35, 66, and 101.
So they turned pick 26, 91, and 165 for picks 35, 66, 108, 125 and 167 So basically moved down 9 picks ffrom their top pick, moved up a lot. They also then used pick 66 and 182 to move up to 62,
Bills went from 7 Picks to 10. 3 picks in the top 150 to 5.
Niners same idea
Traded 27 and 138 for 30 and 90
Traded 30 for 33 and 179
Traded 58 and 152 for 70 and 107
Niners traded to get more picks. Niners had only 6 picks going into this trade and by trading back got 8 picks out of it. 3 of their picks we comp picks at 133-139 and with their late 4th round pick they had 4 picks from 127-139. They wound up with picks 33, 70, 90, and 107 by moving back in the first and second round. Similar to the bills,t hey traded a top 100 pick to get Odighizuwa.
So basically aside from the Broncos, every team traded out of the first did so to get picks last year (Jags did overpay to trade up IMO), or to get a former All-Pro, except the broncos.
Sexy Dexy is a 3 time pro bowler 2 time AP2, Parsons was a 4 time Probowler, 2 time AP1, 1 time AP2 (wound up being AP1 last year), Sauce Gardner was a 2 time pro bowler 2 time AP1, Waddle is a 0 time pro bowler, 0 time all pro.
Mind you, I wouldn't have traded Pick 10 for sexy dexy, I wouldn't have traded my first round pick for Sauce Gardner either. Without getting something else back. Like a 4th round pick.
