Bowe and Bob Bergdahl

All my favorite shows are becoming reality. First Lost with the missing plane now Homeland. Ptetty sure they caught a guy named Walter White making meth too. Whats next a school shooting where the gun was linked to a MC?

I am no supporter of Obama but I think he did the right thing here. I don't care what the soldier did, I am glad he is coming home. The 5 guys we gave them are really meaningless. There are so many of these dbags that when you capture or kill one another will always take their place. It would take a hitler-esque type extermination to get rid of all of them which isn't going to happen. I would think they could have implanted some kind of tracking device on them under their skin while unconcious to track them. I dont care about the potential risks of kidnappings, if anything it will encourage them to keep americans they abduct alive.

The hate-boner that rw radio has for this guy, and for everything involved in the situation, is just sad.

Step back for a second and look at how he—and we, collectively—got into this situation. Look in the mirror, and consider S'ing TFU.

I don't have all the facts and I'm probably just a heartless SOB but I look at it like this: If he willingly left his unit and deserted them, then it's his fault for whatever happened to him. I would've left him there. Once it became apparent that he willingly left, I wouldn't have sent soldiers to try to find him.

I'd be fascinated to know how many people died or were injured in the line of duty for this guy and to capturing the 5 people he was traded for. I guess I would just wonder "was it worth it?" because it certainly doesn't appear that way to me.

I fully admit I don't have all the facts but that is just my initial thoughts on it all.

The house voted 420-1 and the senate voted 98-0-2 on the Afghanistan invasion. Everyone was for it at the time. Whether or not you agree with the invasion in hindsight doesn't excuse a guy from deserting the front lines. He should be held accountable for his actions.

How we got here is irrelevant to the situation. He deserted his post and cost soldiers their lives trying to rescue someone that willingly left.

I get that, but I'm still not sure what makes this a good deal for the US unless you make some assumptions or give the benefit of the doubt to a White House that maybe doesn't deserve it.

Well, will you rush to give any credit at all for anything that happens in the current white house? I'd guess not.

This is an odd story, but since it's not my son coming home after being gone doing who knows what, I really don't want to give an opinion. Other than hoping it was done for all the right reasons.

People were voting on military action to prevent the Taliban from giving safe haven to the people who planned and executed the 9/11 attacks. Heck, I was in favor of it. Twelve years of occupation of a hostile country? Different ballgame.

I heard a minute of Hannity last night, teasing some theory about Obama and Bergdahl Sr. sharing some kind of crypto-Muslim moment. Really, how is that horse**** helpful or constructive?

I know people who served over there. We all do, I'm sure. I'm grateful to them and respectful of their service. I would not presume to tell them—or Bowe Bergdahl—how to feel about their experience. If he faces legal consequences for his actions, so be it. But all of the baying for his blood just sounds like politics to me.

It's not all politics. I think the GOP just has a different view of deserters than liberals do. Liberals are more apathetic about them and some even encourage it to a point.

But yeah, it's pretty clear that Obama royally screwed up here, at least on the PR end of it, and of course the GOP is going to jump on it. Just like the libs would in a comparable situation that benefits them. But one of the reasons this is having such an impact on the public at large is that there are some very legit gripes here. Kind of easy to sell this thing as a fairly major screw up.

I don't even necessarily disagree.
However, I know a few GOPers who, months ago, were clamoring for Obama to go and bring him back and mad that he hadn't yet.
Obama could find a cure for cancer and republicans would **** on him for it in some way. Obama's taking away god's cancer plan for you!!! He is defying god!

Don't forget as well that Obama was the first to politcize this thing when he was up there on the deus with Berghdal Bob. Now he finds himself at the podium with Baghdad Bob trying to act like everything about this is just great.

Everyone knows cancer is good for the economy.
