REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I just don't see this great Falcons team. You still can't run the ball, protect the passer or rush the passer. Also, who knows if Roddy White is still at a top level.

There are so many questions with the Falcons. They have Ryan so they won't embarrass themselves but I don't think 500 is a sure thing.

I expect better reading comprehension out of you pal.

Falcons have one of the 5 best or so QBs in the NFL (certainly 7 best at worst), one of the 10 best WRs in the NFL, a much improved offensive line, a much improved defensive front that may actually be able to stop a run or 2, and in terms of talent one of the better secondaries in the NFL. If the Falcons generate a pass rush, their defense will be above average and their offense was top 10 last year despite no contribution from the running game (which should be much better given the new OL they've brought in)

Ryan a "top 5 or so QB"? Uhh ok. Not in my book. And not in most people's books.

I missed what you initially said about Foles and Romo, but it didn't make much sense with your lack of punctuation and the way it was jumbled.

I think most of teams in the East are close to on par with each other, and I think I'd put the Falcons in that same group.

How do you know all these things are improved by the way?

I dont' get why people are expecting a huge regression from Foles. To me he has all the tools to be a successful QB. I love his size overall.

OOF.

No one has said "great" but you.

Pass Protection should be MUCH improved in fact we got excellent pass pro guys at our two weakest spots to sure that up. RG\RT. Baker back healthy remedies LT. C should be Hawley who PFF said was in the green once he took over for draft bust Konz. So thats 4 upgrades in pass pro out of a possible 5 spots. How is that not improving the pass pro? Same goes for run effectiveness basically. We have upgrades at 4\5 spots. The LG spot we didn't address wasn't a problem last year. The problem was the guys we had starting were not starting caliber players. None of them will have starting roles next year.

I think Hot Rod showed PLENTY at the end of last year when he was finally healthy. I think you may be the only one with a ? about him. Hell he is still much better than anyone on the 9rs.

Runnign the ball is a concern but with Ryan you can get by without a great running attack. As far as protection. If Baker is healthy falcons have a below average LT, very good LG, bad center most likely, very good RG and an average to above average RT. Overall that's at least an average OL which is a massive improvement over the worst in the NFL. I am concerned about the pass rush. If the Falcons had a pass rush I'd be saying they have a shot at the division.

No way is he better than a healthy Crabtree. But I digress...

I hope the Falcons are good. I enjoy talking about it...I just don't see it. I think the depth on the team is weak, especially on defense and now with another injury its going to be tested even more.

Matthews and Baker>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Holmes and Mike Johnson
Asomoah>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Reynolds and Hawley/Konz
Bringing stability to center also will help the OL as well as not having a SVOD at RG.

On the running side of the ball, having a better run blocking TE than Tony will also help as well.

Both Tyson Jackson and Soliai are huge improvements on the DL.

Falcons have some concerns of course as all teams do. But as long as they have Ryan and Julio I'll bet on them to do well

Also what QBs are you considering over Ryan?

Lot of backups got experience last year with our whole LB corp out.

Falcons don't have great depth but their depth is way up compared to last year. Mainly because some of their young players got improved.

Crabtree didn't have a stable QB situation for years. Once the position started stabilizing in 2011 his numbers have spiked and would have continued under Kaep if he didn't get injured. They also play in a running offense outside while Falcons can't run for **** and play indoors. Numbers are misleading.

Never played a snap last year. We started with Holmes filling in, then he played so awful they tried him at LT. Then we put in a UDFA rookie at RT. Shraeder?

How's your LB core with the switch to a 3-4?
Secondary still suck?

Guess what we judge WRs on?

Hint: it isn't their blocking ability.

He doesn't really have that many exciting tools. He doesn't have a big arm at all. He doesn't zip passes in there and he's not a runner. He showed good anticipation and timing last year, but I truly believe their offense being new and unseen before contributed to his success. Guys were wide open frequently, and I think the league will adjust at least a little bit. Desean is gone, and I don't think that can just be dismissed. They were, as a whole, extraordinarily healthy last year. Maclin was the only moderately major, decent player to miss time. The whole OL was totally healthy, McCoy was never banged up, etc. I also feel their defense overachieved last year and will regress, which will hurt the offense and put more pressure on Foles to actually make plays (which he really didn't do much last year).

Also, huge regression because 27/2 is stupid and simply will not happen again, or anywhere close. He threw multiple balls weekly that miraculously weren't picked. If he can't get rid of the ball quickly he gets in trouble.

You're right. I forgot about that cause Johnson went on IR. Trueblood was the one who played the most IIRC. I forgot about him cause the falcons cut him.

No.

LB in the middle will be fine. The two rookies off the street played very well at first. Faded as they hit the wall. Mass should be ok at OLB as well. They won't have OL all over them like last year. We played primarily a 3-4 last year too.

Tony was not a run blocker. As much as an asset as he was, he was an old dog with no new tricks (learning to run block). He was not an asset in the run game in any way shape or form. Especially down in the red zone. The big guy we have (6'7) should at the very least be a capable bloker and at worst a red zone target. I don't think much of him, but he would have to be a total disaster not to catch 3-4 Tds, and block much better than Tony.

Anything else?

You need to look at adjusted numbers based on the systems they play in. Its stupid to compare the two receivers numbres without understand the system they play in. Thats like comparing an offensive player in Colorado to someone in Seattle (baseball).

Tony G will for sure be better than Toilolo in the pass and overall. But the Falcons run game will be better without Tony as he's not good at blocking. The difference between Tony and Toilolo should easily be made up with plenty of room to spare by a healthy Roddy and Julio. Falcons number 1 WR option for like half of their games was Harry Douglas. LBs will be a question mainly the rush end. I think Worrilow and Bartu will be fine in the middle. Maybe a hair undersized but not much. Biermann is baiscally made for a 3-4 drop.

Falcons secondary had one person who sucked, Decoud, who's not on the team anymore. Trufant was one of like the 10 best corners in the NFL as a rookie, Alford should be at least as good as Samuel if not better. Moore is one of the best safeties in the NFL and Lowery is a below average safety but should be a massive improvement over Decoud.
