Braves Acquire Russell, Bonifacio

One other thought. Braves seemed to follow the Bobby Cox school of thought here. We always had a way of getting a lot of players Cox liked. I've heard us talk about Bonifacio for years.

Yea, we have been rumored to be interested in him for a while. I agreed with such interest too and unlike others I'm glad to have him. I am just waiting to see how it all plays out now. I mean I hope this means no more Schafer and no more Gosselin. But I won't be surprised if Schafer stays even though it makes no sense. I mean it made no sense he's stayed this long so who knows? Hopefully he's gone now.

Bonafacio can get really hot from time to time. Hope he gets hot and Fredi, since he goes with the hot hand, has to play him somewhere. And its instead of BJ.

Since EB can run and play CF it could very well mean the end of Schafer. And that would be good.

Yep, he can get really hot and reminds me of Constanza in that way among others. Though he is better at stealing bases and more versatile than Constanza of course. Plus has more pop as Constanza has none, not that either have any to write about. Speaking of Constanza, I wouldn't mind a platoon of him vs righties and Bonifacio vs lefties in centerfield if we bench BJ at some point. Though I'd like to give someone with some pop like Hunter a shot first.

PS: There is no reason BJ should start vs another lefty. He is hitting .165 against them while Bonifacio is hitting .408 with a 1.024 OPS against lefties this year. Bonifacio also has a 5 DRS in centerfield while BJ is costing us runs on defense too with a -9 DRS.

For those upset over Caratini, how is Andy Marte doing these days? Give some credit to the the actual baseball professionals who evaluate players daily!

And maybe EB can be this club's Mike Devereaux. Stranger things have happened so sit back, relax and watch the next 2 months unfold!

Just called up by the D-Backs after they dealt Prado...

Anyhow, not upset with this one. Traded from a position of depth for a couple useful pieces.

Beats the Ankiel/Farnsworth deal at least.

For every trade you point at a prospect failing I can point to one succeeding.

One other thing to remember, the acquisition of Bonafacio now gives the Braves three switch hitters off the bench, and gives Fredi a ton of options.

Why are we talking about Bonafacio as a bench player? He could come in tonight and start in CF and do fine.

I'm fine with it. I like Caratini....think he could be a solid regular but most likely won't ever be anything special. It sucks because I'm sure we could have had them cheaper if we didn't need money thrown in. But two solid pieces for us and I really hope Bonifacio steals playing time from BJ.

I don't love either of the guys we acquired, but seriously . . . Millwood1hitter, you're a straight-up troll. Crocodile tears over Caratini . . . come on.

Russell probably makes our pen slightly better, but only slightly. Bonifacio definitely makes our bench better, but it couldn't get any worse.

The reason we had to upgrade the prospect to Caratini is because we had no money to work with and had to get the Cubs to include a million bucks so we could pay these guys. Otherwise we would have had to give up next to nothing. That's what sticks in my craw. Damn having no money.

Overall the Cubs win this trade, but it won't move the meter much either way.

Yea, I noted that some place too (maybe the other thread). That is the point about having to give a better prospect since we needed a million covered of the two million owed to both Russell and Bonifacio. That tells me we had almost no budget left and sounds like we had to go over budget again to make the move.

The chances of one singular prospect in A ball working out are slim. We didn't trade a package, we traded one guy. This is an easy win for us for this year. Prospects are a numbers game. We gave up one. In A ball.

Schafer was a Bobby guy and Bobby wanted him gone.

Gosselin is a Bobby guy. Bonifacio is a Bobby guy.

Woops didn't mean to edit your post out sorry!

No reason he shouldn't be starting vs lefties. He is hitting over .400 against them with an OPS better than 1.000 while BJ is hitting .165 against them. Tonight should be BJ's last start vs them for a while. It's crazy he bats leadoff vs them as bad as he is hitting against them. Then again it's crazy he bats leadoff period.
