Braves Trade Deadline Rumors

And who was going to replace him in the rotation?

Also I don't think the innings is a big of an issue as this board makes it out to be.

I mentioned signing Lohse. That is what this is all about. He was available for a very long time during spring training.

And Beachy wasn't counted as depth until August, at the earliest (he is being rushed by a few weeks because of this mess). We got lucky and stayed healthy during the first half. Now we are going to have to trade for Peavy (or someone else). That could've been avoided.

We used 10 starting pitchers last year (the league average). We haven't used less than 8 since Maddux pitched for us. And no one mentioned Wood as a possibility (and he hasn't been great) in spring training.

Agreed with this one. Wood is not ready for prime time IMO

And, I might add, you questioning who we would replace Teheran with is the DEFINITION of minimal depth. He didn't even have competition in spring training.

And the braves were NEVER going to sign loshe. It was never even an option. Thats not a "depth" type signing. Roy Oswalt would have been a depth type signing. Scott Kazmir, Jeremy Bonderman,

Loshe signed a 3 yr 33 million. How were the braves to afford that? Also we would have lost our pick we got for Bourn. Something I don't think ATL wanted to do.

So? Did he need it? Tehran has nothing more to learn in AAA. He needs to be pitching in ATL no matter what.

After Wood's spring I think the braves knew he would be an option for the big club at some point this season.

All three were also mentioned. Lots of discussion on this before it led to the issues we are now facing.

Even if we signed any of those 3 we still would be facing this issue now. I don't see any of them changing or minds about how the rotation would set up.

Seriously?

Julio has nothing to prove in the minors, get out of here with that crap. Absolutely no way he should of started the season in the minors.

We could very easily skip him in September or an off-day to minimize his innings. The Cardinals have the same problem with Shelby Miller.

Wood STILL isn't a legit option in the rotation. And whether or not Teheran needed competition is not the point. It means the Braves did not have a single extra pitcher on the level to be considered for the 5th spot.

Were you not one of the posters hating on Teheran last year and during his first few starts this year?

Uh no, pretty sure I was patient and saying give him time, not calling him a bust after 2 starts. Unlike half the board who wanted him out of the rotation after a few starts.

He needed to get through the up and downs like Minor has. He has nothing to prove in the minors.

So, if we signed one of them, we would still be rushing Beachy? Trading for another pitcher? Having Teheran pitching more than ever before?

It is not about having something to prove in the minors. Sometimes the choice to keep a player down has nothing to do with them, especially on a competing team.

I just don't think its a easy as you think it is to have SP depth.

Hudson
Maholm
Minor
Medlen
Teheran

Beachy by june
Gilmartin
Hale
Wood

Leaving ST thats what we had. Some things have happened to change that but the top 5 should be in the major league rotation come out of ST. Signing Loshe was never an option. Singing AAA fodder would have been wise but it still would not have changed the fact that Wren would have to look for SP come the deadline.

Okay. So many hated on him it is hard to keep up. Of course, now they act like it was obvious he was going to become our #2 this year.

Beachy by June? It is going to be August before he pitches, and he is still being rushed. No one in their right mind counted on Beachy by June. Wood was NOT an option in spring training and still isn't a good one. And Gilmartin was a stretch.

How are we rushing Beachy? He has had a set back and has had another 3 rehab starts. He went 6 innings Tuesday.

Oswalt SUCKED and now is hurt

Bonderman did nothing with seattle and got cut. He has now signed with the tigers

Kazmir was the other good pitcher but I still wouldn't feel good with Minor Medlen Kazmir Teheran and Maholm going into the playoffs.

He was going to pitch in june before he has his setback

not matter what this was always going to be an issue unless wren signed a major league pitcher this offseason. Something he was never going to do.
