Braves Trade Deadline Rumors

How are we rushing Beachy? He has had a set back and has had another 3 rehab starts. He went 6 innings Tuesday.

Oswalt SUCKED and now is hurt

Bonderman did nothing with seattle and got cut. He has now signed with the tigers

Kazmir was the other good pitcher but I still wouldn't feel good with Minor Medlen Kazmir Teheran and Maholm going into the playoffs.

If Hudson had not gone down, Beachy would not be starting on Monday. That is being rushed. Only a start or three, but still rushed.

Rosenthal just reported jeff samardjiza is available but the price will be sky high. I said earlier this yr i think hes a guy we could use. I can see him becoming a true ace in the next few yrs. IDK if we will go after him, but i feel like we are going to hear about more and more starters becoming available.

He was going to pitch in june before he has his setback

not matter what this was always going to be an issue unless wren signed a major league pitcher this offseason. Something he was never going to do.

That is my point. He should've. That is what this is all about.

We had 5 major league starting pitchers

He had no reason to

signing AAA fodder is one thing but those types of pitchers would not have made a difference.

I don't see how anyone could advocate not starting out the season with Teheran. It was well documented why he sucked in AAA last year.

Cost is going to be prohibitive. I wouldn't touch it.

I'm sorry, but I'm not giving up a ton for Samardzija. He has some mental toughness issues to sort through from what I've heard/seen.

I don't see Wren getting a SP honestly. I just don't think he will pay the price.

Agreed. We will see another reliever or two and maybe they will push Teheran. If the lead is still 6-8 games in September I could see them skipping a start or two and putting either Wood/Hale/Martin in that spot.

Wow. If he does that, and we suffer another collapse, that could be his job.

You have to have faith in the organizational arms. These guys are in AAA and they are pitching well. A start or two with a big league isn't going to kill you. Competing teams in baseball give starts to much worse arms than that.

So just because Wood has been shaky in two starts we aren't going to give him any more chances? Brave fans should have learned from Minor/Tehearn.

It isn't about giving Wood another chance or not. I think he will likely be in the rotation next year. I don't even mind letting him spell Teheran (that is a good idea--much better than just ending his season in September). But it sucks that a little foresight could've prevented the need to have him start on a regular basis this year during a run for the playoffs. He is not quite ready.

But if you would have gotten that other pitcher than who knows when Tehearn gets his chance. It played out perfectly. Sure, you can't use hindsight when grading the initial decision but the end result matters.

It would have been a horrible decision to bury Teheran. It was time for him to start and getting another pitcher like Lohse would have ruined all of this development.

Lets not even look at it for just this year. Starting next year assuming Beachy is able to come back the braves are going to be STACKED in their rotation. This was the right move.

I think it is obvious that it was not the right move. How wrong it was is still up in the air. Will Teheran fall off in September? Will his arm fall off next September? Will Beachy come back strong? Will Wood at least pitch well enough not to kill the bullpen? Will we lose anything of particular worth in a trade for a starting pitcher? Most of those questions could've been answered in spring training.

Tehearn pitched approximately 160 innings last year after throwing 163 the previous year. I think he would be safe to go into the 200-220 range. That would mean around 12-15 starts at 6 innings per start. His turn will come around another 10-12 times in the regular season. If the lead is where it is now he won't make two of those and then pitch int he rotation.

He has had plenty of innings on his arm and the Braves will give him some time in September. We have capable arms if the offense does what its supposed to do.
