MLB Playoffs Thread

I've always liked Cain, great defense and lots of speed to steal bases too. I wanted to trade for him years ago but he ended up going to the Royals.

ALCS is going to be a fun series.
Really looking forward to it (unless the Royals choke this game away...*knock on wood). The Royals and Orioles have always been two of my favorite non-Braves teams. I live in Arkansas and Kansas City is only about a 4-hour drive from where I live, so we made it to a few Royals games over the years (including last year's two-game set against the Braves), and my dad is a lifelong Orioles fan so some of that wore off on me over the years. Ultimately, I'll probably be pulling for the Royals, but I'll be more than fine with the Orioles winning. Regardless, I'd be rooting for either of them to beat any of the four NL teams.

Yeah. I'm torn. KC is a team that has essentially been modeled after the Braves (prior to the philosophical changes that happened under Wren) by Dayton Moore. Because of Moore and Ned Yost, I am pulling for them. However, Buck Showalter is a fellow Mississippi State alumnus, so I'm pulling for Buck as well.

This makes me so happy. :D

Bryce has always dug the eye black. He's probably going as Frank N. Furter for Halloween.

Look at Omar making the bare handed play out there at second. There's your reason to pull for KC right there.. Omar Infante. A really solid Brave.

And 3 of those LCS appearances were by default before expanded playoffs. KC is about to beat the best team in MLB this year in the division series. But I guess then playing hot at the right time has nothing to do with it and they are just better.

Angels don't have the pitching that KC has. And pitching is key in the playoffs. Does it equal an automatic WS appearance or title? Of course not. But, there is a traffic a reason that teams like the Cards and Giants consistently go deep in the playoffs, and it isn't because they have an awesome manager.

Sure you need some luck too. But the Cards and Giants haven't won half the WS titles in the last 8 yrs because they "got hot."

If pitching is key then why did the Braves continue to get bounced in the first round for like 10 straight years. Why did the Tigers just get swept and haven't won a WS with their staff the last few years. Why have the A's not win a anything with their staffs from the Huddy era ad now with Gray? And yes when the Cards came back from like 8 down in Sept from the Wild Card to take that and the WS they got hot. Same thing when they won their division several years ago with like 88 wins. There is no 'key' to winning in the playoffs other then being hot at the right time.

I think the baseball we see now and the future will never be anything like the baseball played the previous 20 years.

Hows that? The Royals were one of the worst teams in the playoffs this year and should of lost in the WC game. I think everyone would agree with that coming in. If they make it to the World Series or win it all that won't change anything.

Yup, exactly. KC is not some kind of great team, as I said earlier. They're hot, some things went their way. The Angels were much better for 162 games and worse for 3.
