Please lock up Heyward - I am not kidding

I dont think he re-signs, i think he wants to test the FA market.

I'd give him 20-25 mil a year.

Say he gets 20 million a season here. That's way too much money tied up in two players with a payroll the size the Braves have. Not too mention the BJ Upton contract. Thats more than half of our our budget.

BJ would probably get traded, payroll is going up with the new stadium.

I wish he would get dealt. I can't see anyone being dumb enough to trade for him. If anything he gets traded and the Braves eat all or Bradley all of his salary.

Lol 20-25 range? Gtfoh....and no, he's far from our best player...ask the man at 1B what he thinks about that assessment.

I have to agree. Didn't Jason hit .169 against LHPs this season? How can anyone pay $20 mil for that type of offensive non-production?

I am not a moderator either. Sav can cut me as fresh meat from a fisherman's trawler. He knows I won't do anything that will infringe on your rights.

Players with pronounced splits can get paid quite well provided their overall production-offense, defense base running-is high. Shin,Soo Choo would be an example. And he is older and not as good as Heyward.

He's overpaid as well. I value what Jason means to the Braves but not at $20 mil a year.

Choo had quite a better track record offensively than Heyward does. And was coming off possiby his best yr as a pro. And it's a terrible contract, which is precisely why I prefer not to give Heyward anything close to that.

So I take it that offense is the only thing that matters to you when it comes to baseball? Or that it's somehow more important than the other facets of the game? Jason has put up the same career WAR as Choo and Heyward is going to blow him away because you know he's way younger and has even more productive years ahead of him. Heyward hasn't even reached the same age Choo was when he actually became a productive major league player. I can't believe that there are fans that don't understand how good Jason Heyward has been for us. Best player on the team and gets very little respect from his on fan base. Crazy...

And who says WAR is an accurate stat? Regardless, the main point is not that Choo is a better than Heyward. The point is that Choo was significantly better offensively and coming off the best yr of his career. So using that as some sort of baseline to pay Heyward is stupid. If Heyward was a FA tomorrow, there is now way he gets 130 million over 7 yrs with the type of season he just had.

And yes, offensive does matter quite a bit more than defense.

Choo has an edge over Heyward offensively. But imo Heyward is the better overall player by a significant margin. Moreover, given the age difference Heyward projects to be more productive going forward. This holds irrespective of Choo coming of his best season offensively. Choo's contract is a bad one. But it doesn't follow that a similar deal would be an overpay for Heyward given he is the better overall player and much younger.

Stats in baseball can, and do, fluctuate up and down constantly. WAR is a far more useful stat than average and a lot of other numbers. Is it an end-all, be-all? No. But it's useful and not so wildly inaccurate that Heyward's WAR should really be cut in half.

Freeman was definitely not more valuable to this team. Offensive production jumps out more and that's why people insist on saying he was.
