Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

Yeah true. People never start high in negotiations and then come down. And if someone says something one year, it means they feel the same the next year.

How much do u think he signs for?

Yep. Especially when they are no longer dealing with the same GM, cause that doesn't change anything. Wren only made bad deals and pissed off everyone else, not Heyward. He got that one right.

This is entertaining. I just find it comical that anyone truly believes Hart did not have a clear idea of what Heyward needed to re-sign

Yup, Hart has been in baseball front offices for over 30 years and now he all of a sudden has no idea what he is doing. Message board posters can apparently do his job better than he can.

Why are people assuming Heyward is lying when Hart has basically iterated the same thing with his (albeitedly vague) comments?

Because Jason is a liar who doesn't love baseball. Also he is no longer a Brave so we must rally the troops, trash him on the way out and come to terms with the great moves our front office is making.

He's done such a fantastic job for those 30 years...

Wells never came close to the absolute suckage that UPton is at now.

Wells had years with Toronto that he was barely worth 1 WAR. And made quite a bit more when you take into consideration when the contracts were signed. Wells contract then is equivalent to about 25 million a year now.

When I asked Hart if there had been any recent negotiations with Heyward about an extension, Hart gave the impression that there hadn’t been any further talks since last offseason.

“He wanted a two-year deal and wasn’t interested in a long-term extension unless the dollars were maybe beyond where the club certainly wanted to go. We had a strong feeling he was going to go on the market. That’s what he wanted to do. We wanted to protect ourselves and position ourselves better. If we elect, next year, to be one of 30 [teams] that compete for Jason on the market then that’s what we’ll do.”

Direct quote from Hart per mlbtr. Heyward obviously made it clear last year that he wanted to hit free agency to make the most he can. I don't blame him. And even if he wanted to stay here there's a huge risk in letting him test free agency so I can't really blame Hart for playing it safe and getting a decent return for him.

Because journalist never make stuff up...ever. Ever. Maybe you'd have a point if some kind of source was attached to it. Sounds like just another assumption.

The point that you missed is that they have a lot to lose by publishing false info. It's a throw away line to add in if you don't have a source. People don't always reveal sources because otherwise they may not give them info anymore.

I feel like this is an alternate universe where logic and sensibility has gone out the window.

Yup, the Braves went straight to Heyward with a 2 year extension in an offseason where they spent over 300M extending their young core.

Since you're the king of assumptions, why not assume the Braves low-balled him and offered $15 mil a year for 6 years?

But apparently, because Heyward said it was only a few minutes that the new Braves front office are the devils. Heyward has wanted to hit FA for a long time. I don't blame him at all. He is going to get PAID. But, at the same time the Braves have to make the smart move and get future players for him.

Heyward went to them with that 2 year extension but I forgot he's a liar and the Braves tried to lock him up longer despite there being zero evidence to back that up.
