Braves sniffing around on Markakis; Official 4 years 44 million.

I hate John Hart. Don't really like Markakis. But I don't think this deal is the end of the world. However I will say I just really don't get Hart's plan. I had no faith when we named him and have far less now.

And he's 3 times the player. I know some people around here don't buy into the price per WIN. But it's a real thing. And for hitters right now the price per WIN is in the 8-10 million range which is quite a bit higher then last year. The average to above average players (like Markakis who is as average as they come) will get that amount. The high end player like Heyward will get less per win. That's why is it wise to invest in those players because they give you more bang for your buck. At 25 million a year Heyward would be signing for about 5 million per win.

To put it in other words. The Braves would need to spend about 35-40 million on the open market for these average to above average players to fill the missing production that Heyward brought.

Defensively, yes.

Offensively there isnt a huge difference with Markakis and Heyward.

He is NO Heyward, we know. But stop acting like the guy sucks at Baseball. Jeez. He's a very solid player who happens to be a lefty and can leadoff. It's a good get in my opinion.

Did we over pay a bit? Yes. Will almost everyone overpay this year? Yes. Don't get me wrong, Saunders for a meh pitcher, but it didn't happen.

He's a poor base runner and fielder because he's slow as hell. I don't make this crap I watch the Orioles. Everyone mocked his gold glove selection. Everyone knows the people who vote on those awards are idiots.

Just because he makes less money than Heyward does not make this not an awful deal.

Sweet, we replaced RF at less than 50% of what Heyward is going to cost plus got two high ceiling pitchers under control for a combined 10 years.

Now lets see if we can re-sign Upton and we are close to being a good team in 2015.

I think the Markakis signing pretty much eliminates any chance of extenting Justin.

Heyward was a low .700 OPS guy... and you're really going to try and call him a below average defender and poor base runner? You're just grasping there. The dude has won 2 gold gloves... now I'm not saying he's Hewyard in the field, but lets not get ridiculous and call him a BELOW average defender. That's just plain dumb. And please show me how he's a poor base runner... I can't wait to hear your answer on that one.

You are better than this. They gave Palmiero a gold glove for playing 16 games at 1st one year. Derek Jeter has multiple gold gloves. Markakis is -26 in defensive runs saves the since like 2009. He was +1 in 2014. Seems like a fluke to me since he was way in the negative the previous years. He is not a good defender anymore. And please look at park adjusted stats. Camden Yards is a very good hitters park. Turner Field is not. They are nowhere close offensively.

Uggla comes off the books next year.

I wouldnt bet on them re-signing Justin but they have the money for it.

"He's a poor baserunner because he's slow as hell... I watch the Orioles"... wow, you convinced me...

Can't wait to see our pitchers after a ball goes into the OF.....gifs are gonna be HILARIOUS

It's been 342 the last 3 years but who's counting. What he did the first couple of years in the league is more relevant.

Heyward's at .335, .351, and .349 the last 3 years for OBP.

HUGE DIFFERENCE

MARKAKIS SUCKS HEYWARD IS THE BEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL

104 WRC+ compared to 116 the last 3 years. That's a pretty huge difference.

You're including Heyward's 27 homer, .814 OPS year... I think its obvious he's not that player offensively anymore. It's not like the last 2 years is a small sample size.

How about stats. He's -3.4 in baserunning runs and -13 in defensive runs saved in the last 3 years. But I guess advanced stats don't work for you either.
