Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

So let me get this straight...
Let's trade 2/3 of our best players and replace them with significantly worse players.
People call that a good plan? WTF?

the Upton for Walker thing has been out so long......when do trades that everyone writes about for months actually happen? I guess JUpton kinda fits in that category, but it took him vetoing a trade to mariners to make it happen.

I know you can't count on arms. You can never have too many. But we have Tehran, Wood, Minor, and Miller. Sims and the kid from ST Louis trade are expected to be ready 2016 or 2017, right? That is two "elite" guys for one spot. We also have numerous options who could be ready soon for solid 5th starter types.

Why are we not trying to turn JUpton into a long term answer at LF, CF, or 3B?

I'd take Walker, let Minor rebuild his value, then trade Minor for an OF. If we brought in Walker what we'd see is 2 long term pitchers in Julio and Walker, 2 shroter term pitchers in Miller and Wood, and the disposable minor. If you wanted to think classically, Julio and Walker would be Smoltz and Glavine, Miller and Wood would be Avery and Smith, and Minor would be Tito errr I mean Leibrandt.

Not that Minor is close to that equivalency, but given his age, cost, and closeness to FA, he'll be the first on the chopping block.

So you don't think Sims is good and/or close?

Get Walker, get Miller, get some low-minors lottery ticket. If we simply MUST trade Justin Upton, that's a perfectly reasonable return for one year of him.

seems like national writers are saying 6 yrs of walker is too much to give up for 1 year of Jup
