Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

I agree with the premise that i'd extend JUp, i do worry how he'll age but the dude can hit.

Unfortunately it looks like they will trade him at the Winter Meetings.

Maybe we can sign him in FA next winter, probably unlikely though.

I think Hart has the Lofton Experiment in mind here. Not only will we resign Upton next offseason but Heyward as well.

That's the plan, the master plan! But things could change by the time next offseason comes around, I mean they could be the right player at the wrong time or the wrong player at the right time....or whatever the fudge it is...then again I'm just assuming.

I was really hoping his master plan was to trade them both for young, cheap, high upside starters and then use the money saved to pay off the rest of BJs contract before resigning Heywood and Fat Upton. Instead we're paying $11 million a year for a dude with a broken neck

I think Nicks new nickname should be OBN. Ole Broke Neck

I think they'll make a play for one, its what Boston is trying to do with Lester now.

I don't worry about Markakis' neck, but I'm with you on the strategy of trading some salary, so we could swallow hard on Melvin and let him go.

Yea but it's easier to do that when you're a major market team with a top payroll. It also doesn't help to burn the bridge with the player on his way out like they seemingly did with Heyward.

Thats a fair point but i guess we'll see what happens a year from now if he hits the market.

We should have some money to play with, since Uggla is finally off the books.

No way we go after Heyward imo. We wouldn't have signed Markakis, given him #22, and rubbed it in. Maybe Jup but probably not. (Note I prefer Heyward but doubt the Braves do.)

So we didn't feel it was in our best interests to even take the time to meet and discuss money with Heyward, but now we're gonna go after him this time next year because Kenny Lofton.

Unbelievable.

When Heyward is part of a team that actually wins in the postseason next year, I'm sure he'll be itching to come on back down to Atlanta.

Remember when the Uptons were acquired and we all (or at least I) thought Wren built the most dynamic OF in baseball?

No, I did too. I thought the team had struck gold, was envisioning that outfield for the next decade-ish.

Two years later? Poof. All gone.

Heyward was hovering around Uggla & BJ territory during most of the first half of last season. No huffing from the grandstand here. Wins a Gold Glove, and suddenly one of you clowns thinks he deserves a 10-year deal.

I think Jason should have gotten an 11 year deal. Dude knows how to hit and has so much power.
