GM/Winter Meetings Thread

I'm not sure why we are trying to package anyone with Upton. Deal with CJ's salary another time but get the most you can get back for a big time plyaer like UPton.

I think we're trying to convince people that he's a feature, not a bug.

Other teams sayin they feel we're goin to keep Gattis. Why in the hell would we? Him in LF all year would be terrible and he'd probably get injured. And then have 0 value. Trade his a$$ now.

I would assume that's some posturing. It makes a ton of sense to move Oso if the offer is great.

Why don't you wait to see how it transpires before reacting?

4/46 I think I saw.

I seem to recall a raging debate a year ago about whether teams would ever sign another closer to a Papelbon type contract. I guess this settles that one.

About 9M/projected win. But closers tend to be evaluated a bit differently.

Now if we just subtract Justin Upton from our side of the deal, things would be perfect!

Amusingly, you can do that on Baseball Mogul, even on the highest difficulty level. Want to deal an albatross contract? The computer won't have any of that nonsense. Throw the albatross contract into another, already accepted trade for a different player? It's on board with that. Delete the original player from the new deal and just get rid of the albatross? Sure, the computer's down.

Spoke with #Braves’ Hart. Adamant about keeping JUp/Gattis unless he gets exactly what he wants. Could add SP, 2B and go for it instead.

i smell a BLUFF

I invented a new word last night to sum up one of my fears about the Braves moving forward. I combined the words "pretend" and "contend" to form "prontend," in other words, "pretending to contend."

A very French way of doing things, if I may say so.

We are--in Hart's opinion--a SP and 2B away from "going for it" but he would rather rebuild. Awesome.

But wouldn't going for it mortgage the future? I wouldn't mind sucking again for another year or tow if you could tell me we would be a playoff caliber team for the next 6.

I don't think so at all. The cost of those two pieces (and I think a CF and a platoon partner for 3B) would not be all that much, and you can aim for people who also play into the magical 2017 if that's still plan B.
