Braves trade Shreve and Carpenter for Manny Banuelos

The Braves are definitely in on Moncada. They have scouted him extensively this offseason.

I think they will be extremely competitive in the bidding process -- guessing the trump card might be the promise of rather immediate playing time (where, I have no idea).

Braves will make room. If this offseason has revealed anything about the future is that EVERYONE is in the discussion for a trade.

I meant that I have no idea what position they want him at -- but I agree that 3B/2B/LF/CF are very much up for grabs.

Keep your fingers crossed that someone convinces Hart that he's a pitcher. It couldn't hurt to also tell him that the name is John Moncada.

Gotta say you might be the only one on the planet that would rather have Rasmus over Markakis.

Hmm, I think you should read further in this thread as Zito said about the same thing. Maybe others too. But the main issue most against the Markakis deal were arguing was the length of contract point.

We've now cleared $22.8 million (Heyward and Justin) PLUS Uggla's $13 million (following the season), and added several international slots. That's roughly HALF of what early projections of what it's going to take to sign him were.

Anybody that doesn't believe we're "all-in" on him is kidding themselves.

Man, I hope you are right. This is the type of signing that the organization needs to get the fans to step away from the ledge.

BA said that shortstop is basically teh only position he can't play.

Has there been a more updated scouting report?

Yeah I think I read that as well.

He honestly profiles as a bat first 3B. I could be open to the idea of one of those again. The last guy we had like that was pretty good.

If Moncada is legit, you trade Tron. There would be a market for him.

I don't think SS is an option for him if the reports are right.

Moncada would be great at 3B though. Then the infield would be incredibly young and ready to rock and roll for the future.
