Braves trade Shreve and Carpenter for Manny Banuelos

Trading Kimbrel is a terrible idea. If the magical 2017 is really going to happen, it'll require Kimbrel. Hilarious that people in favor of signing Markakis to keep attendance up supports trading Kimbrel.

I don't think there would be many in the middle of that Venn Diagram.

Yup. Carpenter and Shreve would have probably brought Cameron Maybin in return.

Fire Hart!!!

My point is they could be packaged in a deal.

But hey, at least Hart didn't give Gattis to the Yankees and not get any real MLB hitters back. So that makes this trade much better.

I don't think they will trade CK. Maybe if he requests it. I think they are worried about signing someone to a long term deal and then trading him the next year...worried how it will impact future contracts.

I really don't buy that players care all that much about that. I mean sure, in theory, that sounds nice but at the end of the day players want security and playing time. All else is secondary.

Best example of this is Mike Stanton. He went from being pissed off at the Marlins (and vocalizing that displeasure) to signing a career deal with them. And he's not the only one since they supposedly have made progress with Yelich too.

In fairness, there is a significant quality difference between Justin, Heyward, Walden, and Northcraft vs Shreve and Carpenter. If we had traded Walden and Northcraft for Fried people would've liked that one, too.

No there's not. We gave up 162 games from each of them.

If we would've kept the two of them and Hart would've traded Sims for 162 games with Dexter Fowler at the top of the lineup and B. J.'s money wasting away on the bench, this place would've imploded.

I think the Braves have a good idea what Banuelos was all about considering they signed the Yankees international scouting guy this offseason.

Gordon Blakeley. His fingerprints are definitely all over this one.

Let's hope they are all over Yoan Moncada's in a few months, too.

Moncada just makes so much sense. Then you trade Gattis for the best possible return.

No one we could trade Kimbrel for would be more valuable to the 2017 team than Kimbrel himself.

There isn't? There is no quality difference between Justin/Heyward and Shreve/Carpenter? Really?

Absolutely no difference in what you'd be willing to give up for one season of them, no. That point's been proven by the returns.

The Mariners wouldn't give up Walker.

The Orioles wouldn't give up Bundy.

Texas wouldn't give up their top arms.

Again I ask, if we still had them and Hart would've offered up Sims for Fowler to make one more run with Justin and Jason does ANYONE not think this place would've SERIOUSLY gone nuts???

No, it hasn't. The Padres and Cardinals gave up more for Upton and Heyward than the Yankees gave up for Shreve and Carpenter. What in the world are you talking about?

are we in on him? Is he going to get crazy money? You play him at 3rd? Or do you play him at 2B and trade Peraza to a team who will use him at SS where he has more value?

Seriously???

Kris Bryant??? Joey Gallo??? Byron Buxton???

None of those guys would be worth more than 70 innings from Kimbrel?

Wow!!!

Not one person has suggested anything like that.

If those type of guys weren't on the table for Jason or Justin, I doubt they are for Kimbrel. Teams usually are a little bit smarter than that. Usually.

We're in deep on Moncada. Lots of folks around here keep trying to downplay it so they can say "I told you so" if we don't get him. The fact is we've had more guys present at his workouts than anybody else in baseball. They're not spending that kind of money making those trips because they're doing their "due diligence".

The Braves are definitely in on Moncada. They have scouted him extensively this offseason.

I think they will be extremely competitive in the bidding process -- guessing the trump card might be the promise of rather immediate playing time (where, I have no idea).
