Jason Heyward Open to Extension w/ Cardinals

The Braves have historically "leaked" information about former players and coaches, so I can certainly buy the angle of trying to make the organization out as the good guy in the situation. And I can't really blame them for that in many instances; you have to protect your brand.

Leaking stuff about Mazzone and Marcus Giles isn't cool though.:tchop:

Do you believe what you were told makes sense based on everything that has come out? You have your source and I'm sure they have been good to you and usually right on but things are leaked for a reason, they aren't always accurate.

You are correct in that my source also could arguably have an incentive to spin - on behalf of the org. I don't believe that to be the case here, but I do acknowledge that possibility. After all, all of this is hearsay except for those who were in the room at the time the discussions were held- unfortunately Jason was not. I do know that much to be true- so we are left with making an assumption as to what his agent told him.

Bingo

Plus all the BS about us being "in" on high end Free Agents after the Heyward trade...all that stuff came out for a reason....

I really think ramadon's source may not have been exactly honest.

Heyward has no reason to continue to say these things if his camp was indeed approached about staying. Heyward is pissed, the fans are pissed, and the Braves are spinning.

John Hart himself said "assumed." Heyward himself said "no talks." So.....

It's certainly a possibility that the Braves weren't interested in Heyward.

I'm sure they have a pretty good idea of what he wanted and they obviously didn't value him close to that. Hence, the non-discussion.

That's really poor management either way you slice it.

If they assumed he would be too much, shame on them for at least not confirming that before shipping him out.

If they didn't think he was worth discussing, shame on them for not recognizing a huge talent

Unless Heyward was a problem with the chemistry of the team, an offer, any offer, would be a prudent business decision. Heyward has been there years, how would you not call him up and at least offer some discounted contract in order to stay with his bff forever, Freddie Freeman?

I would offer him something, but it's not unreasonable for a team to choose to use the money they would spend on him on some other players. Opportunity costs my man.

Depends on the situation....letting a 25 year old go, that hasn't even hit his prime yet, without even offering a contract is pretty indefensible. I mean, we offered Markakis 11 mil a year for 4 years. We couldn't offer Jason 20? Take away the Markakis signing and maybe I can buy it...

That doesn't make any sense. Just so many grown men pouting about a player who isn't on the team. It's really sad.

Seriously - stop whining about things about your sports teams (it's really all you do). A grown man whining about a team they're not even on? It's really sad

That was pass interference. That was only a few weeks ago you threw a tantrum.

Hey - I'm fine with whining. But you should shut the **** up every now and then because you're one of the more insufferable posters on the board. You're whining about the 49ers as we speak.

I love a good lovers' quarrel.

Why offer a contract that you have every reason to believe will be rejected? What does that accomplish?

So you don't have a fan favorite going on record saying the team didn't value him enough to pick up the phone to talk about staying?
