Alberto Callaspo Possibly Being Traded

If the Dodgers never wanted Callaspo anyway, maybe we re-visit the deal as soon as Callaspo cannot block it as dak suggested. Then again they'll probably end up releasing Callaspo before hand.

Heresy.

I hated the Callaspo signing from the moment it was rumored.

Agreed. It was pointless. But I'll be interested to see who we were going to actually give up and who we might have gotten back. It doesn't sound all that promising to me. Hart will still pull off something, I'm sure. Even if he's DFAd on June 6 and gets traded the last day.

Have to admit they've done pretty well with some of these low cost moves.

Grilli, KJ, JJ and AJ have worked well.

Callaspo, EYJr, Outman, Stults not well.

Gomes could turn out either way. Not looking good so far.

Considering the limited risks taken, I'd have to say these signings have worked well overall.

I imagine we will be more ambitious going forward, which means the proportion of the roster populated by these sorts of players will drop.

BTW, it might be that Hart and co. thought Uribe could bounce-back a bit before the deadline here and then be traded for something more.

Plus there's this from Bowman:

Though Callaspo is not going to the Dodgers, the #Braves might continue to show interest in Uribe.

WHY????

Braves might be trying to unload CJ. Start Uribe just for the hell of it since Gosselin is hurt. Or maybe to mentor Peraza since Uribe at one point was a supersub.

Hart likes Lairdership guys.

Braves have been trying to unload CJ for a while now, it would be odd to finally get something done on that front while he's on the DL.

You think the Jihnson, Grilli, and AJ signings have been bad?

No... but unless they are used for something worthwhile, then it's just wasted money in my mind. It's yet to be seen what they will be worth on the trade market - but I can't imagine it being anything significant

My position is that at this point is too early to say either way, Grilli is signed multiple years. If we don't flip him this year for something he could decline too much next year. I am less concerned about the one year deals though and never expected to be able to flip AJ for anything worth talking about.

Hahaha... Yes it's wasted money. Johnson and Grilli were the main reason the team felt comfortable trading Kimbrel. And even if we don't trade them then they are likely going to combine for over 2 WAR. To say that's a waste of money is just being contrarian.

There is value in stability. Not every signing has to be made with the object of trade value in mind, IMO.

I could care less how they perform in a non-playoff season if they bring back nothing in a trade and in Grilli's case we get stuck paying for a declining reliever a year from now. So for me in the case of Grilli and Johnson it is more about signing them to trade them for something later. I am not saying that is the case with AJ or everyone we signed though.

Sure - but if you're of the opinion we were punting the season - then who cares about throwing $7M to relievers who won't be around in a year or 2?

So you think it would be helpful to the development of our pitchers if we had Jaime and Kohn blowing games every night?

And that's operating under the assumption we can't trade Grilli and Johnson which is clearly obvious that we can.
