Alberto Callaspo Possibly Being Traded

If it's needing official approval it seems likely some money or something else might be changing hands. I'd really like a pick!

\\Fingers crossed

God, we went through a hell of a lot of drama and speculation to end up with that.

Which is a deal I like, mind you, even if I'll go to my grave worrying about Jaime pulling his **** together and coming up with one great season out of the pen.

My first thought when I saw the trade. The chances of Jaime ever figuring out that he is supposed to throw the ball within the borders of that white trapezoid that is 60 feet, 6 inches from the mound are slim, but it will be our luck that someone in the Dodger system will help him figure that out.

Not really sure how we were able to get Withrow for basically nothing. He's a good young bullpen arm if he recovers

Ian Thomas was sent down in Spring of 2014 for not covering 1B on a play that lead to the rally that cost the Braves a win.
How does that saying go five dollar arm - nickel head ?

It's moves like this one that make me so confident in Hart. There was no reason we should have been able to get anything for an over the hill lefty we just sent to the pen, an over the hill bench player who isn't a good teammate, a hard throwing reliever that can't find the plate to save his life (and who every team passed on waivers already this year), and a run of the mill lefty reliever.

Uribe is an improvement over Callaspo. At worst he hits like Callaspo and is a much better fielder and better teammate. At best, he regains the form of the last couple years and is an above average player. Lets not forget that Uribe had a WAR of 4 last year. That's more than Pujols, Werth, Rollins, Adrian Gonzalez, Utley, Span, Pence, Longoria, Holliday, Upton, Freeman, Morneau, and Wright.

And getting a flame throwing, high ceiling relief prospect in the deal is just silly.

If we had sent Stults, Callaspo, Thomas, and Jamie out for nothing we'd have won that trade.

All those post in the offseason were lol worthy. Hart was apparently senile then.

I was really impressed with Hart on mlb network. You can tell he has smooth negotiating tacts. He was so articulate in everything he said. I hope when JC takes over that Hart stays on board as an advisor.

Look, guys, I made a trade! Look when you look at it, when you see it for what it is, we gave up 4 pieces of garbage for something that could in turn potentially turn into something in the future and help us!

Chalk up another win on the board for Hart and Co. Really like the way things are materializing so far and trust me we're only getting started!

This is kind of a head-scratcher for the Dodgers. The deal only has small implications, but the Braves did well here. Still wondering if there will be $ sent form Braves.

By my accounting, Withrow has one option year remaining. He came into the year with 1 year and 132 days of service time, so if he is not optioned down after he returns from injury, he may be eligible for arbitration next year as a Super Two.

After seeing that hot dog story I bet some players are really glad to see Callaspo hit the road, what an ass. Stults, addition by subtraction. Always like getting pitching back.

Shanks, used to really irritate me with his trolling the top of the free board. You wouldn't really know before opening a thread whether it was something you could read, or was just a tease to get money from you. Once he went to liking that income, if he wasn't getting any from you... you were not worth his time. Real turnoff.

feel like i'm becoming a homer but you have to like this deal. we lose pretty much nothing.

Its really difficult to disagree with any of Harts moves so far since he took over. They have for the most part been great.

Let's not try to make Uribe into something he's not, but 1,000 percent credit to Hart here. It's difficult to trade for Juan Uribe and a pitcher coming off TJ and know without a doubt you fleeced the other team. :tchop:

AND the Chris Johnson vs. Fat Juan debate is renewed....until one of them is traded in the coming days. :tchop:

To an earlier comment about this team could make the playoffs. Not if Julio continues to pitch like it's beer league softball.

Fair deal imo. Withrow is a good pickup. But I think we gave up a useful player in Thomas. And as some others have noted there is an outside chance Jaime's control improves enough to make him a major league pitcher. But he is out of options, which reduces the chances that happens while he is with the Dodgers.

No one is making Uribe into anything he isn't. No one cares about Uribe. Everyone cares about getting something for basically three players we were going to DFA at some point and a pitcher that has decent numbers in AAA.
