Daz to Houston. Man, they've had a really strong draft.
I'm not really talking about their individual talent. I'm talking about their philosophy. I like their philosophy because it makes sense and is smart. Taking pitching simply because we've had good pitching in the past isn't really smart.
Cameron to Astros at 37. Dang it. Good grief, what a draft for the Astros.
The Astros are also going all-in on the positional talent in terms of philosophy. It's working for them, too.
Braves arent taking pitching because they've had good pitching in the past. They are taking pitching because they have a great track record and drafting and developing pitching.
Prefer the Giants model myself... They had any success?
Could the Astros expect to sign Daz?

Nice to have the #1 pick to get Correa.

Cameron to the Astros has been speculated on Twitter for a while. Houston has some money to spend in this draft.
This is Roy Clark's/Paul Snyder's philosophy. From 2000-2009, which are the drafts Roy ran for the Braves, the Braves drafted 38 players in the first two rounds. Of those players, 21 were pitchers.
They have the 2nd best record in baseball without him.
Your post and this paragraph in particular basically reflect my view. I would just add that I'm particularly troubled by all the talk coming out of the organization in the "this is what the Braves were built on!" vein. It's not really even an argument- it's an appeal to a mythos, a claim based on a simplified and nostalgic view of a distant past and an organization that existed in a league that's vastly different than it is now.
Isn't that the idea when you draft a player?
Astros have been a historically awful baseball team for the last 5 years. They have built up the talent int he organization and their GM seems really bright. When you the ability to take that type of talent at the top of drafts and make trades always with an eye on the future its easier to work from that.
Also, their bullpen is the reason they have the best record in baseball. They have been phenomenal.
