6/19/15: GDT - NY Mets @ Atlanta Braves

Thought I would tune into Baseball Tonight to see the highlights and it may have well been The Mets vs no one because it was all about the Mets. Wisler pitches 8 innings 1 run ball in his debut and they don't even say his name or mention it. Next up a 30 minute break down of the Yankees game.......

Got to go to the game tonight. Glad they pulled out a win for Wisler.

There were some crazy loud Mets fans in the outfield (until the 9th!!).

We're talking about Fredi here.

Really?

A Braves debut hasn't gone eight since Smoltz 27 years ago. Russ Nixon was the last manager to give a rook the ball in the eighth.

Is it possible Fredi is actually a sentient human being capable of making a good decision once in a while, or are we committed to slamming him bad and good, like Chris Johnson or a long line of whipping boys?

It gets old, is all I'm sayin'. Saint Bobby was a moron when he worked here, too.

Weird that he had reverse splits in his major league career before coming to Atlanta.

Yeah. He doesn't see righties any more, so he doesn't hit them. He's the type of guy who needs to play to stay in a groove.

The guy can hit. Anyone saying otherwise isn't paying attention. I think the real problem everybody has with him is that he's overpaid.

Why waste your time? I haven't watched ESPN in years. It's a regional network.

he can only really hit when he's getting really lucky. he has little power. he can't take a walk, strikes out too much, and is about as slow as any major league player I've ever seen. I really don't see how he can hit. he's a poor overall player.

I'm not giving fredi credit for wisler going 8.

Wisler did not even look like a 22 yr old rookie making his first start in the bigs. Now what do you do with him?

He got a lot of at bats last year. The problem is when he isn't hitting he kills the team because he doesn't draw a walk and is poor on defense and the bases. But I do think he should get a game or two a week. It doesn't make sense to bury a player on the bench.

Yeah, he needs to be hitting.

Fortunately, when he's not, it's harder for him to kill the team with base running, cause he's rarely on base.

Watching Wisler's highlights, I'm seeing some Tommy Hanson type of mechanics that could indicate issues. He has the same basic start slow, stop arm, then go fast that can be indicative of timing issue.
