Trades You'd Make At The Drop Of A Hat...

You put out the best guys you can.

I'd prefer some power, especially right handed power.

If you think Smith, Peraza, Jace, Maybin, and Markakis can get on base at a 0.350 clip, then great. You also are planning on guys like Smith, Peraza, Jace and Maybin hitting some doubles and maybe stealing 20 bags a piece. You are planning on those guys to be very good to elite on defense (not Marky).

I think it would be an interesting experiment. I think it would fail, but wulfpak keeps telling me a run saved equals a run earned.

Markakis-RF
Wiethers-C....in this scenario we spend stupid money on 30 y/o catcher not as good as Mac
Smith-CF
Simba-SS

Peraza-3B

The talk of getting power hitters is important for the future, but it's not a necessity for next year's team. That lineup, given its speed and defense as well, is certainly good enough to contend for a wild card spot given improved pitching.

That lineup is really going to struggle to score runs, but could be .500 if the pitching is elite.

we will see.
I think we'll get a free agent and a big trade to fill two of C, LF, 3b, TOR.

It would be better than our current lineup, which is 9th in the NL in runs (and second in the division) and would also be better defensively. The pitching has to be very good, but it doesn't have to be elite to be right in the mix for a wild card spot.

Thank you. I thought I was the only person who saw it this way. Just buy some time to figure out what th enext moves are and play Peraza and Smith.

I'm not sure how a lineup with good OBPs, elite speed and above average hit tools would struggle to score runs. Will it be the top offense in the league? Of course not but good enough to win more games than they lose with the pitching and defense.

Its a slight upgrade at catcher (unless Weiters hits over his career averages), downgrade at 3B, and downgrade from Johnson to Smith.

It's a pretty clear upgrade at C, especially given defense. And Gomes/Perez have more ABs this year, especially in LF, than Kelly Johnson. I think Smith, especially given speed and defense, is an upgrade over what we've gotten from LF overall. And Chris Johnson/Callaspo have more ABs at 3rd than Uribe for us this year. Again, that's an overall upgrade at 3rd.

Uribe-2 year deal to get him to sign on, 2/20?

Maybin, Peraza, CB all available for trade to improve 3B or C.

We are talking about scoring runs, not defense. Yes, Johnson hasn't played as much LF, but you lose him at various other spots he's played this year.

LF-.227/.289/.343
3B- .263/.316/.373
C- .254/.287/.386

Looking at the overall production, the three replacement would likely have more runs scored. However, I don't know if in aggregate you can consider Smith/Peraza/Weiters an upgrade over Uribe/KJ/AJ. ieters just hasn't lived up to the hype offensively......257/.319/.425 (compared to AJs .280/.315/.435)

You probably aren't talking about a league average offense.

I'm not even sure what you're saying. They'll score more runs but not be an upgrade?

We've scored a slightly below-average number of runs this year. I think it's safe to say that an upgrade at 3 positions would give us enough boost to be average, around 7th in runs.

One guy to keep in mind is Andrew Susac. He's a good looking young catcher with RH power. Giants are willing to listen to deals with him apparently for SP help. I would love to grab him.

He hasn't quite lived up to his hype in the upper minors but has looked decent in his first MLB stint thus far. Still has quite a lot of potential for a catcher, so I could see that being a nice move if the price was right.

Shelby Miller and Peraza to the Dodgers for Corey Seager, Grant Holmes and Austin Barnes
