Our chances for the playoffs are not very good, but there is still somewhat of a legitimate chance, especially with Freeman. [...] I'm still holding out hope there might be some other move made that would put this trade in a different light, cause it to make more sense.
Trading them to the NYM is almost like trading them to the Cardinals. We only have 7 games left with NYM, and before last night, had 6 left with St. Louis.
If that's all they bring in a trade, just keep them. We didn't have to trade them at all. Keep them to mentor all the September callups. That alone is worth more than what we got for them.
I can't tell of your being sarcastic like I was.
Nah he's being serious unfortunately.
What's unfortunate? I don't like the trade. I didn't expect to get much back but I certainly wouldn't have traded Uribe and KJ for two roster fillers. I see us trading a little bit of value and getting nothing of value back.
If this was the best possible trade I see no point in trading them. We gained nothing in this deal.

This just means more playing time for CJ. I am okay with this. We sent cash too? The deal doesn't really make sense since these prospects we got probably are nothing better than our current group. But hey it doesn't make the slightest difference anyway.
Personally, I don't think there was "somewhat of a legitimate chance" of contention for this team, and I took yesterday's trade as a sign the Braves' brass shares that opinion. I think Hart et al believe—rightly so, to my mind—that the Braves' position in the standings (which isn't exactly great to begin with) was more mirage than true measure of the team's ability to compete.
In that light, it both doesn't matter to whom Uribe and Johnson were sent, and means any return is better than no return. Personally, I was hoping that the prospects coming back would be more Powerball than scratch-off, but you take the best you can get plus the money saved—and at least these two seem like decent-odds scratch-offs.
KJ starting at second and batting cleanup for the Mets tonight; Uribe on the bench.
As opposed to enjoying two more months of their services?
Shoot, I really like KJ. I am sorry to see him go. But what is the utility of two more months of KJ?

Very little utility but there is some there. Having guys like KJ and Uribe on the team does have positive benefits for the future. They were picked up for a reason in the first place. Freeman needs to learn leadership. Jace needs to learn how to make adjustments. If we call up Peraza this September he'll benefit from having a guy like Uribe around.
Admittedly this is not that much use which is why you shop guys like KJ and Uribe. I'm all for trading them if you're offered a package that is worth more than the benefits you'll get from them over the final two months of the season.
As small a deal as two months of leadership from KJ and Uribe is, it's still worth more to this organization than the two arms we picked up.
I'm not overvaluing KJ and Uribe or somehow thinking we should try to win games. I just don't like either of the pitchers we got back. I don't think they provide any value at all.
This is the weakest argument you could make against the trade. There's still plenty of veteran leadership on the team. Uribe is a positive clubhouse presence by all accounts and KJ is a quiet guy who goes about his business. A.J. and Gomes probably have way more value in that regard.Very little utility but there is some there. Having guys like KJ and Uribe on the team does have positive benefits for the future.
