Yes, Taylor has the same WAR as Span does this year - in 23 more games. Span, in all likelihood, will finish with a higher WAR than Taylor this year, and a higher WAR than 1.4 that will need to be replaced. Span will likely be close to 3 WAR this year. Again, that is not "pretty much nothing," and I think it's far from a guarantee Taylor produces that next year. Taylor will need to improve to replace Span. A guy like him, who Ks a **** ton, is far from a guarantee to improve, especially when he isn't particularly young. Span was also at 4 WAR last year and 3.4 the previous two years. Taylor, with his below-average bat, is not a sure thing to replace that.
