Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

I don't care too much about the assets given up.......except for Alex Wood.

Giving up peraza for a a shot at Olivera being good is fine. I do not get dumping AW for Olivera.

KLaw article says that Olivera has poor bat speed, often injured, maybe UCL tear and not good on D. I think he said maybe .250 with 20 HRs.

We traded a lot to essentially get Evan Gattis with less power to play 3B at a Chris Johnson level.

For this deal to work out for us, Olivera has to hit a minimum of 250/333/450 with avg defense, right? And we need to be spending some money somewhere else.

Looks like the Dodgers are taking on Arroyo too. I bet we gave away Peraza to make that happen. We bought Toussaint for 14 million then sold Peraza for 14 million. This trade reminds me a lot of the Andy Marte trade. Hopefully it works out just as well.

If you put Touki in the trade it's better for us......but still awful.

surely this is just a big joke and there's more to it. Surely we will hear any moment that Barnes or Holmes or anyone worth a dang is in this thing.

There is no reasonable justification for this trade. The only possible reasoning is the Braves think Wood and Peraza are about to fall apart, but even then they should have fetched more than Olivera.

You can't put Touki in the deal. Touki was a previous transaction that was gold. We took on Arroyo to make that happen. Now we sacrifice Peraza to make someone else pay Arroyo? Just doesn't make any sense. Cannot fathom how we gave up all that and didn't get one of their top prospects or young studs. Not even a solid package of prospects.

Wood>Olivera

Peraza>pick

Avilan/JJ for Bird/Paco is even

Why in the heck would we agree to this???

Exactly. I think most believe now was a good time to shop both Wood and Peraza, because most feel like they may have diminished value soon. But we went ahead and got diminished returns for them, so what good did trading them now do?

Why could we not have at least waited until this offseason to see what happens with Olivera?

I'd take the money saved from Arroyo and just buy out CJ and send him on his way. Would be a wash basically. But this trade is horrible. If Olivera wasn't it an injury risk it'd be different, but he isn't at all. I'd imagine we'll go hard after Price or Greinke this offseason and land one of the 2.

MLB.com puts Peraza 4th on the Dodgers' prospect list -- behind Corey Seager, Julio Urias, Jose De Leon.

#Braves John Hart on Hector Olivera: "We liked the bat. He's affordable, and that will allow us to do more things."

Sadly and arguably the best comparison I've seen - we essentially traded for an injury prone Evan Gattis capable of playing third base and gave up a healthy dynamic 24 year old lefty and threw in one of our top 10 prospects. There is no spin on this one its just a terrible deal. Juan Uribe could probably provide close to the offense I expect from Olivera and we wouldn't have had to give up anyone.
