2016 Draft Position

How many more road games are left? Because we ain't gonna win any more.

Which is strange because of all of the new veteran leadership we brought in this year

Hopefully next year we find our new Chipper Jones while the big club is in the midst of a worst to first turn around. With all the talent in the minors, especially the lower minors, than I will come to believe that we are indeed for a NEW BRAVE ERA!

The Braves are now 4 games clear of the Red Sox, who have the 8th worst record, so it looks like we're almost certainly going to have a top 7 pick. We sit with the 6th worst record, 0.5 game clear of the A's (7th) and only one game better than the Reds and Brewers, who are T-4th worst.

We just lost a home series against Colorado, who came in tied for the worst record in the league, while pitching both Teheran and Miller. We have one home series left against Miami and one against Philadelphia, and all our other series are either on the road, against a team over .500, or both. In other words, we're going to do a lot of losing from here on out. We still have 22 of our last 35 at home, but I don't see that mattering much. I think we'll end up with the 4th or 5th pick with a chance to have one better than that.

It's not going to be easy for us to get to 70 wins.

Yeah, I figured we'd be in the 66-67 win range, but I also figured we'd take 2 of 3 versus the Rockies this series, so who the heck knows how bad our record could realistically be. At the rate we are going we could easily be at or over 25 games below .500 by the end of our next road trip. Though to be fair, we realistically probably have the worst roster in baseball right now, particularly on offense. The Phils are the only ones I see being on our level of bad right now, and the Reds have an absolutely brutal schedule the rest of the way, but I think we have a good shot of passing everyone else.

As much as I dislike the notion of losing or that our losses actually help us, -this is not easy for me to say- I hope we do lose the rest of the way.

How likely is a potential #1 pick? If not #1, top 3?

It really depends on how we perform against the Marlins and Phils in our 6 games remaining against each. If we could somehow go 1-5 or 2-4 against each in those matchups I like our chances to get a top 3 pick. It'll be tough to pass the Reds simply because they are almost as bad as us and they play almost exclusively playoff teams the rest of the way outside of 9 games with the Brewers. The Rockies will also be tough to pass, but might be doable.

I think we have a decent shot at top 3 maybe, and an excellent shot at top 5, but we'd have to really get smoked to get the top pick.

I agree with that assessment, although the Reds (when they get Hamilton back) offense can win/keep them in games alone, and we know how GAB favors offense. How familiar are you with potential draft picks in the 1-5 range? Consensus #1 pick?

Coupled with our needs, whom in your opinion might we target with a potential Top 5 pick?

I'm a big proponent of largely ignoring team needs when drafting, so I'd say we should go BPA.

If we get a top 3 pick, I feel like we have to roll with Groome, Pint or Hansen. From there, I'm willing to go with a bat over the other top SP prospects.

Not that it matters, but are there any cant miss type hitters in the 2016 draft class?

Whats your definition of "cant miss"? For my money there have only been 3 cant miss hitting prospects the last 10 years going into the draft and thats Harper, Heyward, and Pedro Alvarez.
