BRAVES OPENING DAY ROSTER

Awesome fact in a tweet from Brandon Murphy: from the 2012 draft on, there have been 47 pitchers drafted in the first round. Seven of them are currently in the Braves' system.

2012: Max Fried (7th overall), Lucas Sims (21st)
2013: Jason Hursh (31st)
2014: Sean Newcomb (15th), Touki Toussaint (16th)
2015: Kolby Allard (14th), Mike Siroka (28th)

With the re-signing of Jim Johnson, the Braves have, by my math, filled their 40-man roster. Updated on page 1.

If we are not willing and able to spend any of our "top 10 payroll starting 1-1-17" on any of the multiple good players in this FA class, who in the hell are we going to spend it on going forward? Next years FA class is absolute garbage.

IFA. If everyone is reporting our plans correctly, we will need to conserve some money this offseason to afford our penalties. Unlike the Dodgers and Cubs, 7 digit penalties aren't something we can just eat and keep trucking.

Minor and Ciriarco officially non-tendered. With Beckham signing, leaves Braves at 39 going into Winter Meetings.

Possibly players we add through means other than FA...for example, we may make a couple trades that offseason in which we give up some prospects for guys who can start to help now but already cost money.

Don't know if we'll do that, but the option will be there.

Some of these minor league signings take awile to show up (or be found).

Braves sign LHP Michael O'Neal from Gateway of the Frontier League and OF Ronnier Mustelier (DNP in 2015).

O'Neal is 23-year-old Auburn product who pitched in only one game in 2015 after 2-7, 7.13 year in 2014. But he is a lefty.

Mustelier, believe it or not, is another 31-year-old Cuban third baseman-outfielder who washed out of the Yankees farm system after signing before the 2011 season.

And we brought these guys in why?

Now, make that eight with Aaron Blair (36th in 2013).
