It's official: Aaron Blair being recalled to make his first MLB start

I was about to say this exact thing. How can you only score 2 with 12 hits?

Because this team has absolutely no power. Our team slugging percentage is below .300, much lower than the next worst. Almost unbelievable to be this bereft of power.

Three homers. That's all we have this year. Sometimes you get lucky and run into one or two, but nope, not one is hitting them.

Adonis looks as if he's looking away from free-swinging and more into making contact and Freeman being awful both really hurts.

Besides Millwood, name a player we traded in their arbitration years because they were too expensive. I can't think of one.

I'd suggest Simmons. Also god forbid he gets injured during one of his arby years, then he will just be cut. I mean I haven't one good argument to not keep him down a few more weeks to avoid this scenario.

That's the thing. I can't think of one outcome that works in the favor of the Braves team long term by bringing Blair up now.

Even if he would have won today, what would it mean? Nothing in the long term. One Blair doesn't make this team respectable no matter how good he pitches, this year. The supporting cast is too bad.

I guess you could argue that Blair, at the end of his control and arby years, after establishing himself as a dominant ML pitcher, is going to say "You know, the Braves brought me up and let me be a super two, start my clock and allowed me to make millions more than I would have when they didn't have to. Therefore, I am going to re-sign with the Braves at below market value." I just don't see that as likely.

And that's assuming that he pitches well, doesn't get hurt, isn't misused by Fredie, and doesn't lose confidence playing on a AAAA team that faces ML teams every day.

Blair isn't the guy you use, even if you "need" a starter. He's part of the future (we all hope). Weber is the guy you use today if you have to.

The FO made a collective vow not to allow a repeat of 2015. Although some of us might regard that as spin it may be that they take it seriously at some level and view bringing up Blair as part of that pledge.

Simmons was signed to a long-term deal.

"It is our vow that we shall commit seppuku in effort to save face for the 2016 season."

There is reason to believe that the Braves have vowed to the Samurai code of team building.

For those of you bitching about the homers, or lack thereof, remember we are no longer a baseball entity but a real estate company. And the lights are on at both Turner and Cobb, so we got power, and that's all that matters and after we can allow the lights to burn out at Turner Field we will have plenty of power on and off the field at Cobb.

Everything a FO says is spin. I cant think of one instance of a GM saying "Well we were **** this year, and were going to suck even harder next year too!" No one who doesnt receive a paycheck from the Braves could say with a straight face the Braves were even a threat to be a .500 team this year.

While what you say is common sense stuff, Coppy has said some things that really concern me but what I most found concerning is what was discussed elsewhere about him telling Fredi to manage these games like playoff games. That's just crazy IMO.

Well I have criticized Fredi a lot for managing playoff games like regular season games in April so that doesnt bother me very much.

Edit - I have seen how Fredi manages playoff games, there really is no difference.

Fredi being a bad manager is beside the point, you don't manage regular season games like do or die game 7 without creating a big mess. It gives Fredi an excuse for removing starters regularly when in any trouble, even at 80 pitches or less, because these are like playoff games and in Fredi's head that helps us win. Not that it really does in the long run and it will do a number on the bullpen if it continues and one area we lack depth in the upper minors right now is in good bullpen arms. There's almost nothing in AAA right now minus starters that we've used out of the bullpen (Kelly and Gant for example).

Maybe its selective memory but I don't remember Theo Epstein trying to spin the Cubs rebuild.
