GDT 4/28 @ BOS - Chacin the Dream

Mallex just isn't a very good base stealer. Being fast was enough in the minors, not so at the MLB level.

And it's funny how folks are complaining about Markakis making $11m this year.

Can't watch the game, Mallex just being too aggressive? Rule of thumb has always been don't try to steal third with a LHH at the plate. And, of course, Markakis follows with a hit that would have scored Smith.

I disagree. You cannot manage that way every day in the regular season, starters need a shot to go at least 6 innings if pitching well.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. When you're on the negative roll we're on, I think you play it differently.

No need for Mallex to steal there. He probably scores on a base hit anyways.

These replays are becoming a joke tho.

Wow, so we don't challenge when Mallex is clearly safe a few times and replay blows a call if not two today and Mallex is just not a good base stealer now. I am not buying that argument.

Problem is we've been on a negative roll with this type of managing pretty much every game. It's not working outside of a few games, then bullpen gets worn and you can't hold late leads for multiple games even if you have 'em.

It's game 7 of the World Series, if you're going to pull your starter that is cruising Fredi after 5, why not bring your closer in for the next 3?

If we don't win periodically, this is going to constitute the biggest mail-in in the history of the game. I'm not a big Fredi guy, but the team has to see that he cares enough to try to win. If he doesn't care, why should they?

Mallex will learn that there's a lot more to stealing bases than being fast but he'll catch on. (I still think he was screwed on the call at second base.)

McAlpin: Freddie Freeman is 3-for-4. Over his last 14 games, Freeman is hitting .303, raising his average from .080 to .247 in the process. #Braves

Fredi even put in Flowers for 9th, he is desperate tonight.

If smart and wanting to win so bad you start him and not AJP so much...

come on.. he is not a bad base stealer.. he is learning catchers and reading pitchers.. good grief..

A good beast stealer with 80 speed should not even be close to being thrown out. He got a terrible jump when he got nailed at 3rd tonight. When he got caught in the attempt he cut is head open he was thrown out at 2nd by a few feet.

Learn pitchers? He is going to learn the moves of relievers he will be lucky to face more than a handful of times? No. He clearly needs work, and it's OK for a fan to say that.
