Yeah, while I understand that JUp is streaky, it's at least a little concerning that he's actually been very lucky with balls in play and has still been so bad. maybe his bat is just slowing down already?
I would be concerned as a Tigers fan since this is month one, but as a Braves fan I have seen this song and dance before. Would you be shocked if he hit .400 in June with 10 homeruns? I wouldn't be.Yeah, while I understand that JUp is streaky, it's at least a little concerning that he's actually been very lucky with balls in play and has still been so bad. maybe his bat is just slowing down already?
There doesn't appear to be a good answer for his struggles. He's still not swing at all that many pitches out of the zone. He's not swinging more often. He's still making contact. About the only glaring difference is missing on swings of pitches outside of the zone (44% vs. 56%)
Its early to get concerned on J UP, but saying that I am glad we didn't sink money into a long term deal with him. I saw what I needed to see with us. It was good, but I am not sure its going to stay that way for very long with him.
gilesfan what's the word on Austin Voth? he keeps putting up great numbers.
Scouts knock his stuff because his fastball is inconsistent. He's gotten to low to mid 90s but would sit high 80s. Good curveball and changeup. Probably middle of the rotation starter. His numbers seem to be better than his stuff. Kyle Davies????
The answer to our prayers has arrived!

I could see them keeping Chacin.. they will need another Vet to hold down a spot for the first few weeks/months while prospects continue to develop. I don't think we will have much ready to start next year outside of Blair/Wisler/Folty.. Gant could be and Ellis as well. But I wouldn't mind another vet just in case.. Sims/Jenkins/Newcomb won't be ready IMO..

He really wasn't all that different besides his typical aging curve slide.

Huh?

I've noticed that. He's fantastic and absolutely one of the funnest pitchers to watch. He is so interesting to watch. Fangraphs mentioned he throw more fastballs down the pipe than anyone yet batters miss like a third of the time on the pitches. So, he can look absolutely dominating through an entire game, but give up 2 homers. (though he HR/FB is insanely high right now)
