Braves sign Colon

If you're going by war based off his last 3 years average you're probably looking at a 2.5 SP. At 12.5M it's a fair market deal.

It's one of the best moves outside of a big trade we could possibly made in this FA class. lol

For 1 year it's fine.

Doesnt hurt future payroll given the future FA classes are much better.

Especially that monster 2018-2019 class.

With the exception of the big 3 at closer of Jansen, Chapman, Melancon, and Encarncion/Cespedes, it's a pretty meh FA market.

I guess I'm just in the "roll the dice" with the younger guys camp. These are only one-year deals (thankfully), but I somehow see the moves since mid-season 2016 are being made to convince folks we are somehow in the playoff hunt.

Braves are paying 20.5 in guaranteed money for 2017 that produced 3.9 fWAR and 3.8 bWAR 2016. That's under market value with only 1 year commitment. Good times.

To all those folks clamoring for a TOR pitcher trade, is it finally starting to sink in why I kept saying over and over that those ideas were unrealistic?

Braves have the system to trade for an Archer or Sale but would Coppy do it?

Well, bullpen should be alot better next year.

Offense with Kemp was much improved. Should add a FA catcher of some kind.

SP looks better with Dickey/Colon, and maybe a trade.

Not saying we are but things are looking up.

You do realize there are already reports the Braves are interested in trading for guys like Archer, right?

They have checked in and done due diligence on every single pitcher that may be available. Teams willing to potentially trade for Archer do not sign Dickey and Colon on back to back days in November.

Again, anyone that is holding out hope for a guy like Archer isn't paying attention to literally everything Coppy has said and done.

Wow that is the Braves prized possession this winter. All this budget available and they are throwing 12.5 at a 80 year old pitcher.

There are flaws with every free agent available. If you think we can't compete this year you should be happy because this takes nothing away from the future of the team. Should also allow them to not rush pitching prospects to fill in the rotation.

If you're still asking that question you haven't been paying attention to literally every single thing Coppy has said and done.

The only real caveat is how much the org values particular pieces. Maybe they really don't love Albies or think Inciarte is that great while other teams do. It's all dependent on each particular team.

The team can't compete in 2017 or anytime in the future because of the goons running the show. The Braves are so far away from being relevant that they should be filling the roster with all these "great" prospects they have. Let them learn at this level.

What does signing two over 40 pitchers have to do with trading for Archer?

They have maintained since before the deadline they went to acquire a young pitcher who has multiple years of control. I don't know why it's so hard for you to admit that.

I agree. They realized immediately that they weren't in the market for impact talent, so they pounced on everyone's fallback options before other teams even had a chance to fall back to those options and drive up the price on those guys.

While I'm a little disappointed that the bug FA acquisitions are Dickey and Colon, I think they were the right moves and I think Coppy played his hand perfectly so far.

Teams trying to acquire Archer sign guys like Colon and Dickey as fallback plans in January, not as Plan A in November.

I'm sure they were looking to fleece a team for a young pitcher, but it didn't happen. Insisting on holding out hope for such a trade after the events that have transpired is silly.
