There's no reason why we couldn't replace just about every duty of an umpire with technology and improve the accuracy of pretty much all calls.
If freaking TopGolf can put chips in thousands of golf balls and in targets that can tell you where they land, there is no reason why MLB couldn't chip the bases, balls, and gloves to get all the base calls right. The technology is already in place to handle balls and strikes.
Cut umpiring crews back from four to one, with the one guy on the bases to call tag plays, catch/traps, and infield flies and other obscure rules. ****can Bucknor, Holbrook, Hernandez, and all the other incompetents. Think of all the time and money that MLB would save. There obviously aren't enough competent umps to fill MLB crews. Maybe with a 75% reduction in staffing needs they would end up with the guys who actually have a clue.
