WEDNESDAY MINORS THREAD 7/5: Medlen Earns Win

A good showing for the farm system. Albies should be much higher. Will be interesting to see BA's list.

Albies at 40 lol. His profile said he hits a bunch then they say his hit tool may not translate to the bigs. Makes no sense.

To rekindle an old discussion. Interesting to see Puk, Groome and Pint rated above Anderson. My recollection is that those three were the high ceiling pitchers in last year's draft. This is based on the pre-draft analysis that I saw.

Puk deserves to be rated higher at this point, I think.

Groome really has not had the opportunity to show much.

Pint should not be rated above him on performance, but ratings are largely driven by tools for better or worse.

Obviously Groome and Pint are not being rated above him based on performance, but rather on perception of tools and upside. That's my point. This perception was there before the draft and at least in some quarters persists now.

Wouldn't be perception of the tools so much as observation that they are there and can be effective with work at this point. But sure, having a 98 mph fast ball is going to get you up on lists.

Has albies faced a pitcher younger than him yet? Kid is tearing it up in AAA....no way he is outside the top 10.

Baseball Prospectus midseason prospect ranks: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=32224

Acuna 11
Allard 24
Soroka 32
Albies 40
Anderson 48

Albies at 40 is laughable. Wright not included is laughable.

Rest seems reasonable, though BP has gone downhill in quality the last few years.

The Braves pretty clearly have 3 Top 25 prospects in Albies, Acuna and Wright, and 2 more Top 50 guys in Soroka and Allard, plus 2 more fringe Top 50 guys in Anderson and Gohara.

After the trade deadline FG will post their updated list. Longenhagen is by far the best prospect guy in the public sphere, so that's really the only list I reference anymore.

Nice list of guys. I just think there's a ton of prospect fatigue around Albies. He's the kind of player who is absolutely electric at the lower levels and his game gets toned down a bit as he faces tougher (and more experienced) competition. If he hits (and that's a question with almost every hitting prospect), he'll be fine.

There shouldn't be that much 'fatigue' by guys who are paid to do this, though. If you knock a 20-year-old of Albies' caliber down that far just because you've been ranking him highly for so long, then quit.

The Albies stuff is definitely crazy, but I'm pretty sure I read recently that they don't include recent drafts in their midseason rankings, which would explain the Wright omission.
