Around Baseball

we are 5-7 in those 12 games. The Braves are 4-3 in their last 7 and the Dodgers have lost 5 of their last 6 including 4 in a row. I think the Braves record can be excused some because they have been resting starters and Heyward has been hurt. Plenty of people expected us to do worse while Heyward was out than we are doing.

Well in their defense, they've been without Hanley and Kemp, and Puig was injured recently. There was no way they could continue playing .800 ball though anyway.

Forgive me if I don't have any sympathy for them, when we lost our best player for a month and a half total this year, our veteran pitcher/team leader for the year, two of our best relievers, and our two highest paid players are playing like they've been out for the year.

It's almost like baseball teams don't win every game, and sometimes go on hot and cold streaks that balance out over the course of a season. Strange!

??

No, only the Braves go on cold streaks. Every other team wins pretty much every game.

up 3-1 in the 7th after a solid performance by their #2 prospect, the royals **** the lead away and are now down 2 heading to the bottom of the 9th, talk about blowing a HUGE game

Cards will move back into first and within a game of us for the top spot. Dodgers will move to within two of us and be in position to clinch their division tomorrow.

The Braves hold the tie-breaker over every NL team for homefield advantage, so the 1 game lead the Braves currently have over the Cards is actually 2

Yet, according to Forbes, they are the most profitable MLB team ever.

Their payroll is less than my salary, so that's why.
Heard on the radio that their game the other night had a rating of like .004 or something, which meant I think ~1000 households were watching the game. That's a block worth of fans here in Philly.

Saw somewhere else that the A's turned down Will Myers for Brett Anderson........

Wow Young was safe on that play in the Dodgers game, but how was that play even that close to begin with? And more umpire bull**** tossing Gonzalez.

They are rebuilding the right way. The reason they are so bad now is because they refused to go into rebuilding when they were a mediocre team. They got virtually nothing for Berkman and Oswalt. Trade them a few years earlier and they would have got a boatload of prospects. Most teams when they go into rebuilding already have a decent farm system, the Astros had one of the worst when they started. They could spend another 40 million and probably only lose 90 games but whats the point in that. They will get their third straight #1 overall pick this year and they might get up to 5 straight #1 picks before their wave of prospects hit the majors. When they do and they start spending money they will be a force to be reckoned with.
