GDT: Braves @ Reds 4/26 (No Camargo)

I don't really see how this is specifically a knock on the rebuild, though.

'LULZ, the 'rebuild' didn't even produce the two best players that came out of the farm system during this period...those guys were only 2 of the top prospects in all of baseball, who immediately started producing at the MLB level as 20-year-olds.'

If those were the two best and they were just meh, then that's an obvious knock on the rebuild. But just because we won't produce anyone else at that level (which still does remain to be seen, Dansby has been really freaking good this year and arguably better than Albies) doesn't really say anything in particular about the quality of the rebuild.

If you don't see how Coppy/Hart overall didn't make good use of our existing major league talents then I don't know what to tell you.

Acting as though this is a hard fact and not an opinion is interesting.

I think some of the trades were bad, some were meh, and some were very good.

I think overall, we did fine in turning our MLB talent into usable future assets.

I'm judging the trades as they were made, not in hindsight. Remember the White Sox, who supposedly began their rebuild in the perfect fashion? That's not looking quite as good in hindsight, either. Giolito has basically no value, Lopez is meh, Moncada is striking out at an insane rate. Kopech looks good, Jimenez looks good...we'll see if they produce much beyond that.

It was easy for him because he was gifted elite talent at pre-arb rates.

Just like AA is going to look like a GOD because Swanson/Albies/Acuna

Gifted talent in A ball, sure. A different situation than right now where Swanson and Albies were already in the majors with Acuna coming up two weeks later.

I'm pretty sure GM's don't oversee drafts anyways. They usually delegate that to someone else like their assistant GM. So whoever the assistant GM was for JS likely had Heyward/Freeman drafted.

anyone know who was assistant GM at the time

so where would the rebuild be without Albies and Acuna

I think it's an opinion that most people share. Overall they did a poor job. It was criminal to attach Kimbrel to BJ.

I think this thread could keep going around in circles forever, so let me try to sum it up...

Wren made some really good moves, but also made some major screw ups that eventually hurt the team and caught up to him and cost his his job.

HartCoppy made some really good moves, but also made some pretty big screw ups that eventually hurt the team, and caught up to them. It was the cheating that finally cost them their jobs.

Hindsight is a great teacher for both.

AA is inheriting a great situation, based on the work of both of those past leadership groups, despite having to clean up some messes left by both groups. The more recent ones left by HartCoppy are by far the most apparent and crippling, but mainly because they are the most recent. Most of Wrens have already run their course or been cleaned up, at significant cost by HartCoppy.

The rebuild would not be where it is today without the work of both groups, and both groups made major mistakes that have kept it from being in an even better situation.

Probably in a better place

lol yeah, if we continued to let the guy who couldn't build any semblance of a decent farm system try and build it, it would be great!
wren's regime was awful at drafting. i don't want that in charge of a rebuild where drafting (shall i again list the names the last 3 years that weren't high picks?) is really important.
wren probably takes drew harrington #3 in 2016 lol

this is why i say they were equally average. but the wren praise for two lottery tickets that he wasn't even directly involved in is funny, and his lack of being able to draft decent players, giving us a bottom-5 farm, hurt. and it's not just because he inherited a good team that made him pick low.

I can say with 100% certainty that Wren would have not traded Wood and Peraza for HO. Game. Set. Match.

Very, very good post. Thank you.

It's called trolling that some people take way too seriously. Wren got trashed on an almost daily basis after he was fired (bravesitis) and I personally find it amusing that a) our two best players going forward were acquired with him in charge and b) the people who replaced him were much worse (imo)

I can say with 100% certainty Wren would have viewed Peraza as our answer at SS and never would have attempted to acquire Dansby. Game. Set. Match.

No - But he would have signed awful players to long term contracts and continued to draft ****ty players.

Game. Set. Match
