8/13/18 DH GAME THREAD vs MARLINS

I actually don't think the Swanson trade was all bad for Dave Stewart. I mean he might have been able to get more value out of those guys than he got, but a fourth OF, a #1 pick they had already soured on and a back end rotation prospect wasn't so much to give up for what they I guess thought was a #3 starter. They rightly thought they were pretty close to winning it.

But trading Touki for cash and Phil Gosselin is an all time head scratcher for me. Glad Coppy was there to make both of those trades. No one else was.

i wonder if they took bregman instead of swanson, bregman would've been in that deal. we can dream.

It wasn't bad. It was horrible.

Lol Touki has gotten through the 4th and the 5th on only 15 pitches. He should probably go 7 at this point if his stuff holds up

with a double header you take a few more chances with whoever is the starting pitcher...i was hoping for 6 but 7 would be great

They were both atrocious trades. I've said before the Touki trade was arguably stupider because they just gave him up for essentially nothing...but the Miller trade was awful any way you look at it.

Sure, you could phrase things as positively as possible for Stewart...and even still it's a bad deal. But what they actually gave up was:
- a 3-5 win OF with 5 years of control
- that year's #1 pick with 6 years of control
- a top 50ish prospect with 6 years of control

Your characterization of those pieces, if that is indeed what they thought of them, just proves their stupidity. If they thought Ender was a 4th OF, they're stupid. If they had already given up on the guy they drafted 1st overall 6 months prior, they're stupid. If they just sought to get 'back-end prospect' value from Blair, they're stupid.
