The Trump Presidency

This right here impressed me. He also worked with the DA in Harris county to decriminalize marijuana possession. The DA Kim Ogg ran on decriminilizing marijuana and won. The voters spoke and Art did little to obstruct that. I cant find the youtube video with him and Ogg atm but I appreciate that he didnt fight it like a lot of polie chiefs would. Only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was his excuse for why it was slightly delayed. I dont remember it exactly but it was a turrible excuse. Only a minor complaint though. I have a lot of faith in his integrity as a top police official. He wont prosecute cops as much as I would like but I try to be reasonable with my expectations for cops.

you devotion to finding things to credit Trump for is admirable...i guess that's just you being fair and balanced

I care most about results on the field.

Happy to discuss policies you don't like.

I have been pretty clear about how disappointed I am in spending

Posted this in another thread but also relevant here.

Feds raised a record tax receipt October, despite the huge tax cut to corporations.

octtax7.jpg

THEY STILL RAN A $100B DEFICIT

IT'S THE SPENDING, PEOPLE. It has to stop.

We're running deficits because we can't stop increasing spending.

It's not complicated. Tax cuts don't cause deficits. Spending does. Letting people and companies keep the money they earn is economic liberty, and is good for growth.

Yet here we are. Shame on Trump and the GOP for allowing it when they have the large majority.

Corporation income tax receipts, however, were significantly higher this October than they were in October 2017. This year, the Treasury collected $8,000,000,000 in corporation income taxes in October. Last year, it collected $3,823,060,000 (in constant October 2018 dollars).

So a guy stood up in a play about a jewish family during intermission and yell "heil hitler!" he then followed it up with "hell..." something else

i'll let you guess what he followed it up with and who he follows as a leader

it's weird how every hate group and racist seems to always be in the corner of this guy you just guessed

Glad to see Trump on the prison reform bandwagon. Good for him. Pardon the cynic in me (and my side plays the optics game as well), but I found it interesting that in the past week Trump invoked "God" in comments about the California wildfire (He's probably invoked "God" before in some sense, but it was front-and-center in these comments) and stood on stage with a bunch of African-Americans.

To be fair, he often stood on stage with African-Americans prior to putting an R beside his name, and I think he has taken nearly every opportunity since. There aren't many willing co participants.

A newspaper friend once asked. I paraphrase

"What do you call a journalist that isn't combative, skeptical of every utterance and accepts answers at face value?
An editor"

I would say David Gregory

So which is it we want, press that are lapdogs or press that get into the faces of Press Secretary's and Presidents.
Can't have both

I would argue Huckabee - Sanders is terrible at her job and Trump is a pathological liar.
But, Acosta is the boogie man?

Tell me, how many here knew of Jim Acosta before Trump ?
....................

One last thing, Trump called on Acosta. Acosta doesn't just get to stand up and speak.
Just like the Telemundo reporter Trump targeted during the primaries

I'm old enough to remember Major Garrett being called a racist and an ***hole for asking Obama far more respectful questions than Acosta asks. So the answer to your question seems to vary with the letter that appears alongside the President's name.

I do agree with you that it's moronic for Sanders or Trump to call on Acosta.

Leading to Obama Admin. revoking Garretts access?
Apple meet watermelon

I dont recall Major Garrett being called a racist and curious why you do.
Or would

The question:
GARRETT: Thank you, Mr. President. As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran — three held on trumped-up charges and according to your administration and one whereabouts unknown. Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscious of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?

The response:
[tw]621552842281648128[/tw]

I thought it would be fun to see what CNN thought of Garrett's question as well, since they are so supportive of Acosta:
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...-of-line-asking-obama-about-american-hostages
CNN's Dana Bash and Don Lemon criticized CBS News' Major Garrett Wednesday for asking President Obama how the White House could hail its nuclear deal with Tehran even as four Americans are being held prisoner by Iran.

"I've been a White House reporter," Bash said after the White House press briefing Wednesday. "You know what it's like to stand up and ask the president a question — and you do want to be tough."

"But there's a fine line, especially standing in the East Room — a fine line between asking a tough question and maybe crossing that line a little bit, and maybe being disrespectful. So I think that that happened there," she added.

CNN's Don Lemon added, imitating what he suspected Obama was really thinking in response to the CBS News reporter's question, "Well, let me tell you basically what [Obama] was saying [in his response to Garrett], which was, 'Man, look here, are you out of your damn mind.'"

"That's exactly what the tone was. To put the question in that form, I was at home watching, going 'Wait a minute,'" Lemon added. "It was a little out of school."

As I said, it's interesting to watch the standards change when the party affiliation changes.

But no one of consequence. No one of the Administration ? Let alone the President himself

You quote a comedian and a talking head who's jobs are to be provocative and say things to attract viewers because they that get clicks by kicking up dust
Robert Gates who I think might have been the Press Secretary in this area -- his quotes ?
apples and watermelons ?

You know the difference
.............

I'm old enough to remember Sam Donaldson ( and predecessors that taught him the ropes) who on a scale of attention grabbing asshole makes Acosta and Garret appear to be snot noses.
But he got answers and made people think by asking uncomforatable questions and being persistant.
Wow, that word again

This is fake news.

The man was trying to criticize Trump.

And has since apologized.

By the way, a couple vocal anti-semites just got elected to Congress and have Ds next to their name.

“Some audience members at a performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Baltimore were sent scrambling out of their seats Wednesday when a theatergoer shouted “Heil Hitler, Heil Trump” and made the Nazi salute during intermission, according to police.

Anthony Derlunas, 58, allegedly told police he was motivated by his hatred of President Trump”

Photo 1 is what we usually see. It leads lots of people to come to the conclusion that most of the U.S. is conservative. And to make lots of assumptions about how those blue areas are somehow stealing elections from all that red.

Photo 2 is a cartogram of the same information, with each square representing both an individual district and an approximately equal population. It gives a MUCH more accurate reading of the state of things.

The point is: land mass doesn't vote. People do.

this reminds me of a new boss I once had that was promoted beyond his/her skill set yet felt the need to leave the impression they had a level of authority/ competence
Instead of you know, asking questions
Everyone has had this boss :

Trump:
"You gotta take care of the floors. You know the floors of the forest, very important...

I was with the President of Finland... he called it a forest nation and they spent

a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things

and they don't have any problem."
