David Price expects to be dealt

I think Minor gets a slight edge because he pitched more innings. But pound per pound per start, Price was better.

Considering Price was injured....and missed 5-6 starts and was still only 18 innings behind Minor I would say it's not a big deal.

He's showed signs of decline. Velocity and swinging strikes are down. Too big a risk to trade the farm for.

So your reasoning is based off of ONE stat, a stat that most people agree isn't as accurate as fangraphs. Got it.

ERA, WHIP and K/ 9 as well. Those are 4 pretty big stats. I must have missed the study which shows that 4 out of 5 posters from the internet think that fangraphs is better than bref win it comes to war. You seriously think Price was a whole win better than Minor this year? You crazy.

Most pitchers are. What's the last team to trade the farm for a pitcher and win the world series? Phillies when they won were internally groomed, Yankees did break the bank for CC but that's different, Giants were all home grown kids (and Barry Zito and scrapheap guys) Cards were all small acquisitions.

The way to win world series is to build pitching internally.

Of the group of world series winners the biggest trade acquisition for pitching was Fat Joe.

Only guy I can think of a team trading the farm for and winnign the WS in recent history was Beckett and the Sox. Most WS are won on homegrown talent, which the Braves have plenty of. While I'd welcome Price, I won't nuke the farm or hurt the team we have now for him.

Sign Hudson and JJ, if JJ can't be healthy then we have Wood. If Huddy stinks or is hurt we have Wood, if we need to trade someone for positional help at the deadline we have wWood. That's a wiser move for this team. We're gonna score a lot of runs next year, we should focus on keeping the guys we have more than bringing in other guys.

Well said.

Agreed. JJ is the target. Let him come along slowly and under the tutelage of McDowell. Continued developments from ALL of our starters and we could be a force yet again next year.

Well said but I'd go after Lincecum if we went after someone on a buy low deal.

But yeah, develop our own, only maybe 8-10 aces throughout baseball and not many are available for a good price.

Deal anybody but Sims and one of Gattis or Bethancourt in the minors for D Price. I would include Wood as well.

Price
Meds
Minor
Teheran
Beachy

Heyward
LaStella
J Upton
Fred
C Johnson
Simmons
BJ
Gattis/Lard/Beth

Looks pretty good on paper.

2 years to win it all then start over.

Price for Wood, Gattis, Hale.

Regardless of what we do externally we need to take care of everything internally. Heyward, Freeman, and Simmons all need to be extended this offseason. Then talk to Minor.

How much are you willing to gamble on JJ though?

But none who've had close to the peak as JJ. JJ would be a risky investment but if it paid off we'd have an ace as 3-4 money.

When was the last time he even came close to his peak though? That would be 2011 and in that year he only pitched 9 games. It's really got to be asked if all these injuries over the year have taken their tole and diminished his stuff. Even if they haven't, what are the odds he can remain healthy for a full season?

I'd take a flier on JJ. But he'll probably get a better contract then we'd be willing to give him. I could see teams like the Royals going hard after him.

That's why you take a solid gamble and if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't. Presuming we don't keep Mac we'll have a healthy chunk of gambling cash for 1 year since we'll need the money the following year.

IMO the stars have to align just right for me to take a flyer on JJ but he has been quoted as wanting to go back to the NL in order to rebuild his value.
