Gray has much better stuff than Teheran

Is he really a better pitcher though? I think a lot are just down on Teheran because we remember all the jacks he gave up. I'll put it like this - I'm not giving anything of value for him. Paying to get Gray and then trying to unload Teheran is not worth what it would cost for what might be a minimal performance boost. Here's last year's stats:

He had like a 2.85 era away from yankee stadium in 18 starts

Gray “could” be better than Julio, but that’s not a given.

Honestly I’d rather see Fried, Soroka, Touki, Gohora, Wilson or Wright.

Unless we get a top of the rotation guy, Let the young guys pitch. Anything else feels like a lateral move.

He is not a 1-2 win player. Unless you believe he is not a good defender like he was last year. I would bet he comes out a bit better defensively this year. And also willing to bet he finishes at 3 or higher.

His last 4 years... 1.5, 1.0, 2.9, 1.8

He hasn't done it in 4 years how is he magically a 3+ WAR player now when his outlier year recently didn't even make it? You guys are giving Puig way too much credit.

A healthy Puig might give you 3 WAR. That's definitely something we could use. That being said, there are easier sources of 3 WAR. Puig's ego won't play here.

He might be but as shown in my previous post he only even came close once in the past 4 years and that was an outlier. He's not the player he was as a rookie. He's a 1-2 WAR player on average

Yes.

Julio .217 BABIP
Gray .326 BABIP

ERA is very misleading here.

Also Gray did have ace numbers on the road in 2018. Not that I'm one to say that's what he would be when getting out of Yankee Stadium but that place elevated his HR/9 and BB/9 numbers. He has also increased his K/9 the last two seasons from what he was doing earlier in his career. I'd honestly look at his half season with Oakland in 2017 as a baseline of what you'd likely expect from him out of Yankee Stadium.

You can't use last year's stats as a proxy. Before he was a Yankee he was a 3+ WAR pitcher with one bad outlier year when he had injuries... considering his stats away from Yankee stadium fall in line with his usual stats and it's a very hitter friendly stadium how can you honestly use last year?

How is Gray a much better option thank Porcello or Gio, who have both easily been better than him.

Because Porcello is a 2-3 WAR pitcher who had one outlier 5 WAR year. Gio is a 1-2 WAR pitcher. Gray has been a 3+ WAR pitcher when healthy and not pitching at Yankee stadium... it's pretty clear if you actually look at the stats

Wait. So puig is not a 2 war player because last 4 years. Which he was mostly hurt. But gray is a 3 war pitcher when healthy which he hasnt been the last four years. Narrative much?

Gray only had one notable injury... Puig had lots of little nagging things or he was just sat for being a bad teammate... guess that will magically go away as a Brave. Just using the most recent data we have dude

Neither Gray, Puig, or Porcello help this team. Puig could only because of the vacancy on the roster at the moment. The arguments are moot because all of these guys are mediocre.

That was one of the most boring and uneventful winter meetings in recent memory. If things don't break soon we'll end up having to wait for January for the offseason to really get going.

It's strongly likely Gray would be better than Teheran, but nothing is certain.

And Gray has been a 3 WAR pitcher the last four years except for the one injury year and the one year in Yankee stadium... and considering his stats away from Yankee stadium I don't think it's a stretch to say that's closer to the norm than at home
