Braves interested in CK and DK

12:04 RJ: If forfeiting draft picks was a concern, shouldn’t Keuchel and Kimbrel deals be done by now?

12:04 Avatar Dan Szymborski: No.

12:05 Avatar Dan Szymborski: If it comes out there was something agreed to before the draft, the team will almost certainly lose the picks they would have lost *and* additional picks.

12:05 Avatar Dan Szymborski: MLB has been very clear that any QO shenanigans will be punished severely.

I honestly thought Kimbrel would be signed by now and headed to some MiLB city to get a few tune up appearances either tonight or tomorrow.

Although I didn’t expect either to sign today, I’m still surprised we have heard next to nothing about either one today

Could likely be attributed to the fact that MLB wants as many eyes on the draft as humanly possible - much like during the playoffs. Part of the reason there are less than a handful of games today with most of them starting LATE.

Quite sure they prefer that today's news cycle is centered on all the new young talent rather than the couple guys that thumbed their noses at $18 million a year eventually getting the money they deserved while their former teams receive no compensation.

Mark Feinsand: According to a source, the Yankees and Braves are the favorites to sign Dallas Keuchel. Both teams are believed to be in the same area with their offers at the moment.

Interesting to see that from someone other than Heyman.

would they bump Julio? strange to me.

I don’t think we’d have to worry about the rotation much. Fried and Soroka both have some question marks for durability and giving them a few extra off days wouldn’t hurt, not to mention Folty is returning from injury. I don’t really doubt that DK is better than Julio or Gausman (or honestly any of our rotation this year) and it always makes sense to upgrade if you’re in the hunt.

You can never have too much pitching depth but I would be surprised if we are targeting DK over Kimbrel. That said it would likely take a few weeks to get DK ready for the rotation so that would give the team more time to see who they would bump or if they go with a 6 man rotation for awhile.

Done worry, we’ll sign neither and pocket all the extra money from our budget and draft...I mean provide us financial flexibility to make potential moves in 2021...

I'm pretty sure we'll take on significant salary at the trade deadline. Annualized at least 15M of contracts. ymmv
