2019 MLB Draft Thread

From Connecticut. Lefty with good size. Elon commit. Coach there says:

Stephen is a true five-tool player. He has the ability to come in and be an impact player in our program. Stephen can play all three outfield spots and has a plus arm. He is very athletic and has plus bat speed.

Filling out those short-season rosters now.

So are Harris, Kalich and Paolini potentially over slot guys? Kalich is a draft eligible sophomore, so he has some leverage.

Paolini isn't even on Baseball America's list of best players in Connecticut. If they go overslot for him...

Maybe they’re spreading small overslots across multiple rounds?

Considering it makes no sense to go under slot at 21 to go over slot at 60, this is the only real explanation.

Braves appear to be taking the quantity approach.

I can’t make heads or tails of what they are doing though.

It’s basically either that or these are all just slot picks and everything is weird.

From a system numbers standpoint, maybe you need to sign more draft players with the international FA restrictions?

I posited this early this morning as the one thing that makes sense. Save a ton on the front end, spread it out over more guys to try mitigate the international ban.

Avery Weems is a tremendous name. South Siders have had a good draft.

Harris maybe, but while the others have some leverage, given their relatively low profile, I have to believe they are already signed at no more than slot and perhaps under.
